Do you consider fashion to be art?

Perhaps certain designers are artists while others aren't?

it is whether some nerds on the interet consider it to be or not

and yes all of them are artists, a 3 year old finger painting is an artist, 16 year old girls doing beyonce covers are artists, it doesnt matter how "good" you percieve their work to be

I consider all crafts to be a form of art. Some are just more artful than others

This fruit is on the right track.

I would say fashion design is an art.
Fashion itself I would say is just a phenomenon that has and will continue to occur.

I think it's art if you want it to be, if that's the context for your work and the way you want it to be viewed. I'm sure people like Iris Van Herpen and the people on the Margiela linea 0 team are very much in that mode. They understand the limited ways their clothing is seen, perceived, and the very rare occasions that it's worn.

Conversely, you have many, many designers who appreciate and understand the importance of fine art and modern art to contemporary culture and appropriate it as necessary (Ruby Sterling with Raf Simons is a timely example), but they understand the industrial, commercial nature of their business and make no pretensions towards producing art.

It's subjective, really.

Nowadays everything can be art and nothing can be art.

Designers like Yohji have said that "Fashion cannot be art" but what does "art" mean today, really? It's all become extremely vague

So yes, no, maybe.

I think that's silly.

People throw around the word "art" a lot, but there's still a real definition of it that people like appraisers, collectors, curators, gallerists, sales agents, academics, and (yes) artists use to define their work as a separate endeavor from more commercial and/or mass-produced products. This isn't to say that art can't be mass-produced, but there's an obvious difference between a Ruby Sterling painting and a Ruby Sterling painting that's put onto a Dior couture gown.
