I want the ones in op pic but some other models look great as well. How would /fa/ wear them as opposed to white or black plimsolls? I personally wouldn't think much about changing my outfit to suit the colors in the shoe. Especially since I'd only get them to wear on a daily basis.

rafdidas are cool. they aren't like any 'common' sneaker or 'normal sneaker'. They're a unique design and its the design that makes them cool, in addition to them being raf.

reposting my response to these kinds of comments from another thread. expanded a little:

in the first place, these style of trainers generally are a template designers can work with. just like basketball sneakers, german army trainers, the cap-toe chuck taylor style, or tennis shoes. the asics/adidas jogging sneaker style has been neglected and rarely, if ever considered seriously and its no surprise designers have found it ripe for interpretation. raf is just one among many who have looked into the possibility. lanvin off the top of my head, i think common projects and our legacy have put out some as well.

second, ugliness is an aesthetic in and of itself. carol christian poell makes clothes that can be considered ugly or garish (ghoulish might be more appropriate). issey miyake is another designer interested in elevating or thoughtfully producing clothes that are ugly or tacky. this isn't the best analogy, but do you know the sculptor alberto giacometti? his sculptures can be described as garish, ugly, deteriorated, rough, etc.

third, theres something going over your head when it comes to raf himself. the shoes follow a streak of retro-futurism present in rafs designs since his collections in the 1990s. this often includes juxtaposition of bright RGB and CMYK sets of colors. you guys are like someone who could only call michaelangelo's sculptures beautiful and limit yourself from understanding giacometti because at first glance it is 'ugly.' to some degree there is personal preference or taste involved, but there is also an issue of being able to 'see' or appreciate it.

saying real asics/adidas jogging sneakers look exactly the same as adirafs is as undiscerning as saying vans authentics are just like cp achilles.

funny you should mention. raf in his early collections (1995/1996) was deeply interested in school uniforms and 'youth culture' in general. he often cast actual teenagers for his runway shows (pic is from a later collection but still shows some of the theme). he in recent years has dipped back into this well for ideas, reprising some stuff from his 90s collections and the 'school boy uniform'

i actually downloaded the videos of his early collections from his website before they were all removed. i recall specifically a monogrammed burgundy v-neck sweaters. that's dedication. i have them on an external HD i think somewhere and will see about uploading them and linking them here. watching them and reading about raf in the 'redux' book were real eye openers. he opened completely new territory

second, what do you mean "just normal trainers"? you mean if adirafs were presented to me without my knowing they were designed by him? if that's the case then yes, i'd still wear them.
