You had to scour out two vague lines in an entire thread to make your point, and that second line isn't even from the OP post.

Did the thread strike a nerve? Hit too close to home and you start to feel defensive or what?

Struck a nerve, maybe. Those sorts of people are insufferable to me. They probably wear sports sunglasses all the time too. I wouldn't say it hit too close to home since I don't wear any of the articles of clothing mentioned.

Granted most of the thread are people defending such choices, but the OP and a couple subsequent posts really rustled my jimmies.

a lot of blogs are like that though

I mean, there are bad tumblr blogs for every type of 'aesthetic' but those are the kind I see the most because there's some overlap with them as far as brands I like

I see a lot of blogs with homestyle pancakes and wholesome country girls and sick choppers and would-be-J Crew ads and #denim and I feel like I have to say something when I see them because people need to stoppppp

I'm not even all about 'Europe'. The USA is, in my opinion, the greatest country in the world. I just think Americana as a whole aesthetic vision gets boring, and more than that, I think blogs should make some effort to not be about more than two things. either I want to look at a blog about clothing or I want to look at a blog about food.

>>7578057
I might need you to define "that much". They don't make me angry, I just think they suck

I don't follow workwear blogs at all, but sometimes they follow me or reblog something I posted so I end up looking at them

my experience with yuketen has been pretty good, overall

they're a little bit overpriced, but if you get a sale price, they're pretty good. unfortunately sale prices seem to be worse this season than they were last season, as far as I can tell.

they tend to be relatively long, which doesn't always work well with my relatively wide feet, but other than that, I can't complain

I cannot comment on their long-term durability. I have something like 5 pairs of boots and 6 pairs of shoes in rotation right now, so I don't use any of my footwear very heavily. I can say, however, that I've never heard of a yuketen warranty, or any options for repairing them. I don't think I could recommend yuketen as your only pair of shoes. They're perfectly good for supplementing a collection that already covers the basics, though.

something to keep in mind is that a wide variety of manufacturers make yuketen's products. I think some are made by quoddy judging by what I've seen, but I don't know that for sure. They do some collaborations with Heschung that are labelled as such, but some of theirs, such as a collaboration with a Canadian manufacturer (which one assumes is Viberg, but the prices aren't comparable), and work with a Mexican manufacturer, are not attributed to a named entity (AFAIK).

the other thing one should understand about Yuketen is that Yuki Matsuda likes to capitalize on Made in America because it pays off in the Asian market. don't expect commitment to US consumers

well shit. What would you recommend for mocs?

>> No.7579643

Yuketen, Quoddy, and Alden are all great places to start. The real advantage you get with Yuketen is the styling, really; it's going to be more progressive than a lot of other heritage-focused footwear brands.

that's a tough question

I don't own any Quoddy but I have a friend who has a pair with a fucked up sole and he's been contacting them to try to arrange sending them in for repair, and it has been months and they haven't responded. I sense that they don't know what they're doing. That said, they're pretty reasonably priced for what you get

Oak Street have been pleasant, in my experience, to deal with. But I don't know what they'd do if there was a problem in the long run. That said, it's a good product for the price.

Rancourt's shoes are not finished to quite the same standards, but they offer repair services for when the mocs get fucked up. You pay for them, but at least you know they exist.

the aforementioned Alden make great shoes, but the moc toe shoes they do make don't strike me as moccasins. and they're a lot more expensive than anything else (they're similar to yuketen at retail price, but yuketen goes on sale frequently)

Russell Moccasin makes serious shoes; to my knowledge, their main market is hunters. their shit is expensive, and takes ~20 weeks to make, but supposedly it's worth it. I wouldn't know. in any case, it's worth checking out. their website has terrible pictures; japanese stockists have better ones

other than all that, I don't know much. new england outerwear makes mocs in the US, but I know very little about them.

pictured: russell moccasin, almost ordered these but didn't

I think it's not true to say that poet ever claimed he was a poet or a philosopher. he may have aspired to being a poet, he certainly aspired to saying wise things, and those are noble goals. it's not fair to dismiss him as a failure in those respects; but in relation to his reputation, it makes some sense to say that he was not all he was believed to be.
