Dear fellow grills of /fa/,

What kind of a hair brush do you use and what would you recommend?

I need to a buy a new one and I really don't know if I should go for a nylon one or a boar bristle.... Does the type of hair brush even matter?

I've tried a few boar bristle ones, they fucked my hair up pretty bad. I have scandinavian hair, if thats even a thing, kinda fine strands but grows thick in places. I figured boar bristle would be a gentle way to manage the thicker parts, but all it did was make it greasy and flat. took out quite a bit of hair in one combing too. To this day a wide-toothed comb or just clean fingers is the best way to manage it, but I like the bedhead look anyhow.

When it comes to actual tangles, I find nylon better because I have thick hair and boar bristles don't grip properly. I like brushing with an animal brush after detangling for shine and smoothing.

I have the Tangle Teezer by Tangle Angel and although it's juvenile-looking, it doesn't pull and it tackles tangles. I've heard good things about Sephora's in-house brushes. I like their boar detangler (my roommate has it), but right now I use a Bass brush that I bought on vacation.

Honestly once you master the technique, any round brush will work. Choose one with a ceramic, perforated barrel and if possible, one infused with minerals, like the Moroccan oil or Drybar brushes (it sounds stupid, but they help the product move through your hair gently).

Experiment with shine cream, oils and anti-frizz products until you find what works for you. If you know someone with really great hair, ask them what they use

>>7445632
>>7445661

the shiseido curler is ok. honestly it doesn't entirely matter as long as you can get all of your eyelashes curled, and it's not an incredibly cheap curler. what's more important is the length of time you hold down anyways. you may consider getting a small curler as well if you have a lot of lashes, or lashes that extend out more like i do so you can get them all easily.

>> No.7445673

>>7445632

Ive used a curler 4/7 days a week for a few years now and lemme tell you there is a difference. some of the cheap ones are or can become loose and clumsy after a couple of uses, and the plastic pillow can get permanently dented or ineffective. the paint on them can crack and come off, and some have too narrow an opening to fit all the lashes in or too weak a curve to follow the contour of the eye and curl every lash evenly. others have too much of a curve and pinch your eyelid when you try to get it close enough to the eye.

best invest in one of some renown and change it every year or every other year. depending on how often you take it with you it can get fairly worn in time, especially if you just toss in in the bag with all the other stuff.

You must be this kind of girl. My soul weeps for your brushes. I hope they're quasi-cheap, because good brushes never deserve not to be washed.

Really though honey clean your makeup brushes, especially if you use liquid/gel/cream product. All you're doing is compromising the application and your face isn't going to look as good and the germs n shit are probably wrecking whatever effort you're putting into your skincare routine, if you have one.

No. The oils and germs from your face get onto the brush an accumulate, making it nasty. Same for the sponge, but worse.

Applying powder (what I assume is foundation) isn't advisable because you don't really get even coverage and it's easy to over apply and it almost always looks super cakey.

Rinsing your razor with just water is not all it takes. Have you ever done dishes? Ever try to just rinse the grease off with just water? Exactly, you can't.

I dunno, it sounds like you aim for simplicity and minimalism in your routine. I'm not saying ditch the powder because from what I can tell by reviews is that it's a decently good one, but save it just for when you're getting shiny.

You need a new powder brush for your powder, and to toss your blush brush and replace it with another or wash the shit out of it. I'd toss it though as the fibers prolly aren't too happy at this point.

As for replacing your powder in your routine, it seems like that it was really light coverage, so I'd recommend a BB cream. It'll even you out more, look more like your skin, and throw some skincare in there for extra measure.

A couple that I like are Maybelline's Dream Fresh and the one from Too Faced. You can apply it with your hands, a foundation brush or sponge. Surf reviews online and sample different ones to find one that'll work for your skin, be it oily, dry, whatever.

If you're going the sponge route, get a beauty blender and clean it regularly, or those cheap sponge wedges and toss them after each use (they're literally 2 bux for 100, they're meant to be tossed).

If you're going the brush route for the BB cream use either a dedicated foundation brush or a kabuki. Clean it often.

Trust me baby it makes a huge difference.

Yeah, I'm definitely aiming for simplicity and minimalism. That's priority 1.

I don't know about the BB cream... I know how you may think the powder gets cakey but I really don't think it does. It's compact powder, a little creamy on it's own. And I apply it right after I moisturize so it kind of sinks in.
And I get shiny, so I need powder anyways.

IDK man, might not my current way work out pretty well considering that?

Generally it isn't so long as there aren't any irritants and things you're sensitive to in the product. Also, quality. Putting counterfeit shit bought off of eBay day in and day out on your face is never bueno. Skincare and makeup go hand in hand, skincare being the most important. If you slather on foundation over your open sores, we can still tell you have open sores.

>>7445920
Nah it's all good, I understand. At the end of the day, at least I hope, your makeup is for you and no one else.

If your products are working for you, go ahead and keep doing what you are doing. It's about what you like, not what I or anyone else on this board likes.

It's just sometimes there are better ways to go about things that can work better for you in the long run and achieve the same, if not better results visually.
