I'm also a Perth guy and holy shit do I love Melbourne. Walking distance (plus a train or tram) gets you everywhere, shopping and eating is amazing. Keep and eye on sales and stuff, you can get some sweet deals even though it's Australian prices, last time I copped new leather Rick Ramones around $450 AUD.
