Advice: Take your fucking time. Take the time to find an artist that you really admire, rather than just showing up at a shop. Research different shops and check out the artists before even going in. Artists will try to put their best work online, if possible. If you like what you see, there should be plenty more pieces to see in the shop. Also, have money. If you have a budget, don't get a tattoo. Get a better job and save some money. Good work doesn't come cheap.

If you take all of the information on the plaque next to it away it's a black square. It's a failure as visual art. I'm not saying the piece has to be technically challenging, but it has to offer something and the vast majority of avant garde modern art fails visually.
