I don't own any dress shoes, and Thanksgiving + Christmas is coming up.

Would some Allen Edmond Wingtips be ok for a first dress shoe?

I know I will want to maintain them for years, being this expensive.

and yes, this color or all black.

assuming you need a walnut wingtip, yes

if you need a black oxford, cop that instead

i need any versatile dress shoe. wingtips are my favorite looking shoe, but i've never bought a dress shoe or have owned one.

i prefer walnut color over black, but the black goes with anything...so i guess black it is?

Most versatile dress shoes are black oxfords or derbies.

yes. i read the sticky, but are black/wanut wingtips too much for a versatile dress shoe?

they're the ideal choices for a versatile shoe, but you should own both tbh

pick one of these in walnut or brown:
your pic
strand
park avenue
fifth avenue

i personally own park aves and strands. walnut strands are definitely my favorite since they're so versatile. you only need one pair of black oxfords in your entire wardrobe pretty much

is black oxford the same as black wingtip?

>> No.7202061

wingtips have "broguing"; they're the stamped holes in the leather that you see

oxford shoes are shoes with closed lacing; wingtips can be oxfords, but oxfords can't always be wingtips

pic related - close lacing

these have some broguing on them, but not enough to be wingtips (?)

An AE wingtip in walnut is a great choice for a first dress shoe. Cop.

Black does not go with everything.

Don't troll the OP. He's asking for help and not being a dick about it. Try to follow suit.

Captoes. Also fine.

That not dress shoe at all that very casual.
If you really want actual dress dress shoe you need a the straight tip close lace.
Wingtip is good for casual!!! Good with grey flannel and the tweed the country side. But is not for dress.

But honestly, wingtips are dressshoes although at the more casual end of the spectrum.

Pick a medium-dark brown wholecut oxford with a medallion.
