Designer sneakers advice thread. I put an emphasis on "designer" - no Nikes or NBs here, I want to discuss CP, Raf, Margiela and whatnot.

What do you think of GATs? How's the sole and the leather, are they well made? Are they comfortable, are they wide enough to not hurt if I walk a lot? I own CPs and wondering how MMM sneakers compared, as I've been considering copping their galaxy python Replica low tops.

Thanks for your help, anyway.

Out of curiosity though... Why would the paint splatter ones look any less autistic?

I like the python ones because of the print essentially, but the paint splatters look more messy imho. Moreover, they're white and considering that I bash my sneakers around a lot, they'd get very dirty quickly.

The majority of high-end sneakers have a removable sole. If you can't remove them, just add your insole on top of it anyway. GATs are slim and narrow so that high of an arch from your insoles might make the fit very snug. That is, assuming you can't remove the insoles from them in the first place. Buy them and see for yourself.

The build quality and construction are good on all those sneakers, so don't worry about that. I like the overall proportions and build of many Givenchy styles, but most of them just seem built up for the sake of being built up. That said, I've found myself liking one of this season's models. The tan lining takes it away from any overtly athletic look, which would be more melodrama than a sneaker really needs to have. I don't often like the unambiguous placement of metal trim on Givenchy accessories most of the time, but the gold on an almost ghostly white upper hangs there easily and doesn't look forced.

Hm, equal you mean? That's good, won't have to worry then. I thought that Raf had lower quality than CP for example but I was mistaken apparently

I'm in the market for shoes which can be worn during more or less all year, but no, not in particular.
Also versatility in terms of colors doesn't matter.

Yeah. Not really versatile though, but I think they'd accomodate my feet more given the inserts. Balmain seems mostly out of my price range though, I wouldn't pay more than 550-600 euros for sneakers. What's the deal with Balmain prices anyway?

Same thing for GATs, I don't get why people say they're generic.
On the other hand, I couldn't recognize Dior Homme in the wild. They look like Paul Smiths, or SLPs, or whatever. Then again maybe I should see them for real before saying anything.

so if I was to assign arbitrary values for quality (10/10 being the best value for the price )and design (10/10 being the most unique design for the price) for all the designer shoes I've owned...

MMM gats: 4/10 for quality, 6/10 for design
already said why

KVA wraps: 8/10 quality, 10/10 design
Great quality, they've been beat to hell, awesome design, my favorite shoe

CP derby shine 6/10 for the quality, 7/10 design
the crepe sole is literally applied the same as on a cdb but I have a thing for wedge soled derbies (The APC I've handled seme to have the exact same quality as these... they may as well have been produced in the same factory)

CP achilles: 8/10 for the quality, 8/10
nuff said

Yohji Monkey Boots (wedge soles): 2/10 quality, 6/10 design
These have atrocious Zara like quality with the sole separating and everything. I don't even think it's stitched on, just If I didn't get these ultracheap I'd never cop.

also as a total aside, for having more shoes than your average gf I don't think I'd ever name a designer shoe 10/10 quality, ever. I know your panties will all be in a bunch but construction methods on designer shoes really don't work out/seem to matter. In terms of 10/10 quality based on wears/problems, my aldens and (lel) clarks desert troopers have not had a single rip, tear, stitch, etc. I could never say that about any of my designer sneakers. And I wore those boots in much harsher conditions too.

I guess you can take them as designer - MMM Chucks.
I've got a few question to people who actually own them (not the painted fake ones u made yourself).

Are they worth it? £170 is not that much but they're still chucks so I'm not too sure about the quality.

How does the paint crack? I personally hate chucks but I think they look sick covered in the paint, and when it starts
to crack but I don't want to end up with no paint on them in few months and have normal regular Cons with Margiela written inside.

Mr. Porter has 2 pairs of velcros (and other stores)
Black and silver/black woven ones. Since I dress pretty minimalist and all black all the time I thought silver ones would be a better option for me? I'm looking for some bold/statement sneakers and I find all black velcros too boring. If THey still were being sold I'd ofc get holographic ones but yeah...

raf velcros are sick as fuck but the sole is NOT the same as common projects sole, they look very similar and I'm sure they're still from the same company (margom soles) but the raf soles feel a bit thinner and shittier

also the little bronze thing that the velcro goes through will stain the fuck out of the tongue. Water drops will first appear dark as fuck and you might think they're fucked 4ever but it's not permanent it'll go away.

I h8 walking up/down stairs in my velcros because I feel like it's going to fuck them up idk everytime I walk down a flight of stairs I swear I can hear raf screaming "noooooooo you're going to ruin them!"

you see the DBSS in the pic (not mine but same model)??? That lacing is sick right? well it is A BITCH to put on, the laces are like 15ft long

Just in case you come back pic related are my ones which I bought the day they came out and wear every 2 or 3 days.

The cracking on the tongues was already there on purchase but other than that not much cracking has occurred. I don't skate in them or anything but I have done a lot of walking and some running (to catch buses) and the paint has held up. I don't think you have to worry about losing all the paint after only a month unless you're planning on doing so crazy shit or rigorous exercise in them.

All up I've been really happy with them but they're the first pair of converse I've owned so can't really compare them to the normal ones. The leather interior is nice but can make a squeaky noise sometimes when you're walking. I really love the entirely white look of them at the moment and the cracked up tongues look really great imo.

At the end of the day I would recommend them if you like the look and dropping the cash isn't going to put you in dire straits. Otherwise you could do a DIY job.

different intent with the looks, so it's hard to talk about how it compares there. I like the way they do unlined leather though, I don't know how the quality compares but the leather buttero uses looks thick and nice; I don't remember ever being wowed by CPs (the few times I've seen them in shops) but because my memory is a bit hazy I probably can't draw much of a conclusion about the quality difference

in any case, it probably makes no difference to anybody. I can't imagine someone being between buttero and CPs. I think most people know whether they want one or the other

blame the buyers. rick actually produces a pretty broad range of colors, especially for basic perennials like the tshirts and various shorts, but with few exceptions buyers stick to the various neutrals and his architectural colors. the only exception seems to be colors that he uses in a significant way on the runway. luisaviaroma tends to do pretty deep buys though, often including some rarer colorways

well, colors do increase the difficulty of styling too. if you have like, lime green podshorts, now you're dealing with an unusual color and a crotch swinging at your knees. if you're trying to swing rick on a limited budget, as many people on fashion forums are, it's just easier to stick to neutrals.

High tops are unnecessary. You need lows, boots and derbies/creepers.

Say your budget is around 1000 dollars. If your concern is quality and durability as well as versatility, just cop the following:
>Dior Homme low tops
>Red Wing moc toe
>Prada Creepers
That's versatile and high quality enough that you won't have to replace them for years.

You're welcome.
