What does /fa/ think of YSL?

Does anyone own any pieces by them?

What do you guys think about their high top sneakers?

What do you like about YSL?

What do you dislike about them?

Favorite show?

>Also really they were the first to ever feature blk models? DO you know what show?
I can't remember, but it was mentioned in the his documentary L'Amour Fou, which I highly recommend. It mainly focuses on his personal life but there is a lot of info. My guess was it happened in the 70s/80s Another thing Yves did was be the FIRST designer to come out with a full RTW line.

Another thing about Yves himself: While working for Christian Dior, Christian chose Yves to be his successor.

YSL wasn't waning. The prominence of the ready-to-wear maybe wasn't there, but the shoes and accessories had been a mainstay at all major high-end retailers after Pilati took over and were accounting for lots of same-store sales growth.

In terms of what? The bulk of the business is fragrance and accessories anyway, which were booming upon Pilati's departure. Kering was looking for a way to get the label back to the forefront of what people talk about and shoot for editorials, but the sales numbers were never the motivation for replacing Pilati. It's why the rumors about him going had been going on for years; there was no reputable, believable successor and the business was still chugging along.

fragrance =/= house of YSL
they did see revenue from the amount of fragrance barring their name through licensing
but not enough to move clothes.

generally a consumer who is buying a $50 bottle of fragrance isn't going to associate the fragrance with hey, im going to buy a $2500 dress.

usually the consumer with a collection of fragrances, owns no designer pieces. and probably sources their clothing from low end mass market aimed brands such as micheal kors or coach

chanel no 5 is one of the most important fragrances of all time, and when it was new it was absolutely avant garde; it was so important and so influential that it was widely copied, right down to the scent of cheap soap and cleaning chemicals, not that they can come anywhere near matching the appeal.

you can like what you like, but it's a little disingenuous to slam great fragrances because they don't meet your expectations. as young as i am, and even when i was younger i tended to find fragrances targeting youth demographics are cloying and one dimensional, but that's just my >opinion

It's one thing when you were on high school and purchased mall-rat vans, nikes, whatever, but it's different when it comes to purchasing items that are $300-$500.
