Why do I feel like these sneakers are meant to be some kind of sculpture or something? They're meant to stand on their own. I don't even think they're meant to be worn. They're fascinatingly cringe-inducing, like pure distilled ugly-90s-sneaker syrup with no water. They're like Sketchers. I don't like visible branding either. However, in this case, visible branding is not important enough to pay hundreds more for a pair of shoes.

In regards to the color scheme, BOTH are ugly. However, one pair of shoes is selling for much less than the other, so if I had to choose between the pair that cost less than $100 an the pair that costs more than $400, I'm going with the former. I haven't seen a pair of Rafdidas in this thread that go well with anything yet. Not a single pair.

I think they look great with cuffed slim jeans or cropped slim trousers. moreso when there are black or complimentary socks rather than bare ankles.

I think they look like shit with baggier pants (which is how they were styled in runway shows, if I remember), very skinny/tapered pants, or anything with stacks.

I don't think I have ever liked a fit where pants meet the rafdidas directly in any way. they sort of need to stand alone. also something heavy/bulky above the waist works well.

pic related is almost ideal for me, except the jeans need to be a bit looser.

all in all I think this thread is full of people who are too invested in either camp. yes they are expensive and can look like shit if styled wrong. but they can also look great if worn correctly, and of course anything from raf, just like any big name designer, is going to be expensive. don't know why we need to make these a more polarizing item than they inherently are, but I guess that's the 4chanz for ya

you have to look at it from the design perspective to fully appreciate these, I think. imagine you're on raf's design team and are given the task of developing a sneaker that is modern and cutting edge, like the rest of the clothes your brand produces... what do you do? you know that athletic/running shoes are in style at the moment due to the deluge of fits with roshes, frees, etc found on tumblr and the like. what did those running shoes do to become popular to the point where they are acceptable with "smart" (i.e. dressy) outfits? they took the cluttered look of asics or every other running shoe pre-2010 and simplified the fuck out of them. so what do you do as a "high fashion" brand that challenges conventions? you move in the opposite direction. rather than simplifying, you introduce more glossy blocks of color. at the same time, you show that you're innovative by completely flipping the script on what colors are used. instead of bright hues, you choose maroon, dark navy, olive. of course you throw in some pink and whatnot to keep things interesting.

"IN CONCLUSION" it's basically flipping the script on what the "pleb" brands, such as nike, have done to make running shoes appealing to the public over the last couple years, and it's fucking amazing/brilliant imo.

YES these shoes are supposed to be ugly to a certain extent. that's the conceit of it all. but at the same time they combine interesting colors and textures that work amazingly with an otherwise simple fit.

as far as i'm concerned these shoes are great

i think they look good because the color blocks are different from most other available sneakers right now, and the colors are subued enough the only gaudiness maintained in the shoe is the silhouette / build of it.

and on top of the color blocking, it has excellent built quality and detailing, so it comes out looking like a great shoe while holding onto aspects of ugly shoes. i love them.
