Losing weight is easy as hell if you're not dumb. I went from 186 to 140 in less than four months.
Went vegan, ride my bike 3+ miles a day, run 2+ miles a day. Basic, but you need to stick with it. You also don't need to be vegan, of course, but you don't even need to work out and you'll start to melt away.

weightlifting as guided by p90x =/= a proper structured lifting routine. p90 and the like are structured to keep people that aren't dedicated interested in "health and fitness".

if you want to get jacked, start on a 4 day split and TRAIN YOUR FUCKING ASS OFF because it'll take a year of eating 2750-3000 calories a day to get swole. don't do starting strength, don't do GOMAD, but do go on /fit/. mix in a few heavy barbell lifts for strength but focus on dumbell isolations. you need to be constantly increasing the weight you lift.

If you want to go otter mode, eat at maitence (you'll figure this out when you figure out how much energy you're putting out). lift mebbe 3 days a week, and swim or run 2 days a week.

Don't be afraid to overeat at first, so you have the energy to keep up, but understand that means you'll have to have a longer cutting time to lose the fat.

Go on /fit/ and say you're starting from a strength base and ask for their nutrition advice then so they'll treat you like a normal person instead of a skeletor. Take their nutrition advice but don't do a intermediate lifting routine. Start with a beginner strength building one like SS or Stronglifts

Eat at maintenance. Get 1 gram of protein for every pound you weigh a day. Don't worry about cardio. Do major compound lift movements (bench press, deadlift, squat, overhead press, rows). Add useful accessory movements (chins/pullups, dips, flys, curls, skull crushers, side raises, ab wheels) but only at the end of your workouts after the major lifts have been completed. Your schedule can look like this:

Monday: Squats, Bench Press, Dips, Flys, Skull Crushers

Wednesday: Deadlifts, Overhead Press, Rows, Chin-ups, Side Raises, Curls, Ab Wheels

Friday: Squats, Bench Press, Dips, Flys, Skull Crushers


Very basic routine, enough volume to keep you interested. Strength gains on the major compound movements will keep you motivated and less likely to quit on the program when you don't immediately look aesthetic. 180lbs is a great weight for 6ft, just fill it out with muscle and don't be a pussy.
