>>6954364
no, but its not a very good school
it's a mediocre regional school.

I'd prob choose CSULA over it

davis, stanford up in norcal are nationally ranked though, actually ranked over harvard.

Davis, is actually the same school as LA, all the UC's are supposed to be the same thing. all cost about the same, but UCD has a little more in the way of standing, and employment assistance.

UCLA has more "activities" though. some sort of "rivalry" with the trojans of UCSD. actually its a fake rivalry but they pretend to have alot of fun with it..

I thought it was but then I got in and came here and realized what is actually happening.

Its in LA everyone who is nobody wants to be here. Mainly girls who think they can model and beta faggots who wish to waifu them blah blah so a billion people apply every year. Most those applications are shit and are rejected.

Since so many people apply here because above reasons UCLA has a low acceptance %.

It still requires solid grades, test scores, and essay but looking around some of the people seem to be struggling with basic math courses and derp shit but I am in the sciences so its probably like that everywhere

Wot? It's ranked as second best public behind Berkeley.

Also I'm not necessarily looking for a Californian uni, do you have any recommendations out of Cali? Stanford is too hard to get into; I'm a B student with some A's and some C's. I compensate with great test scores and stuff but Ivy Leagues are out of my league huehue (except Cornell and Brown maybe?)

>trojans of UCSD
Don't you mean USC?
Is USC good?

Oh I get it. So the low acceptance rate is just because a lot of asshats apply for fun.

>> No.6954459

>>6954439
nah, Berkeley is better ranked.

berkeley, davis, stanford = top tier right now

san diego, Los angles, riverside = downward slump, having money issues and aren't really that well recognized anymore just regionally

meaning that "if you happen to live in thi area, thene here are a few kinda okay schools you can go to. and you get this much of a discount, and it's easier for you to get in etc.

you pay a "resident tuition" which is roughly $5-10k a quarter depending on program

>> No.6954468

>>6954459
Depends on the source you used but it almost always seems that Berkeley is 1 and UCLA is 2. It also depends on the programs for the other schools but its almost always berkeley and ucla on top

if i were an international student i would cross california off my map. it' not all too desirable.

i know the UK has some badass schools that are cake to get into.

yeah, USC w/e i never really cared, i think i went to like one game and that was becuase they gave me a free ticket one year (i was never a USC, or ucla student.

i'd look at other states.

but i started my under grad in 2005. some of my degrees on the wall i paid almost half of what kids are paying today. price hikes would have killed me.

chapman is decent i heard, they're out in orange county, south west to LA county and generally a better area than LA.

A lot of the people living in LA will tell you about how awesome it is, but it isn't.

UCSB is the ultimate beach/party school. i doubt that an international student is looking for that.

the real issue with uci, ucr, ucsd, usd is its asian heavy. and asians tend to be real click oriented and you might have a hard time since even asian professors buy into some race superiority type nationalistic crap.

ivy league it up though.

"i can't get in" sounds like an excuse

why would you pass up a real school for a UC im mean seriously......you're going o walk past the ferrari dealership not even looking at them and go straight for the pre-owned hondas?

well how about a ferrari modena? you can afford it, you have a drivers license

>nah nah i can't handle the horse power, what is better a toyota corolla or a toyota camry? or should i get a honda accord or a nissan altima?

well they're pretty much all the same, but have you actually seriously looked at the ferrari modena? sounds like you can handle it, it's just an entry level ferrari it's not their f1 race car, you can't handle that yet (PHD, or harvard law) but nobody expects you to jump into that yet.

>well i guess it doesn't have to be something used (california) maybe a lease? (top ranked schools outside of california, MIT, texas AM)

why not just try to BUY the ferrari, worst thing that can happen is the sales person says they can't sell it to you for the negotiated price/give you a decent apr on your loan. then you can seriously go and look at those used japanese cars if you want

Ucsd is the farthest thing from a party school. Either your source is a moron or they said ucsb. Also let sieg heil deter you from ucla or csl m8. I went to cal for undergrad and ucla for grad school (engineering). I'm not sure. That link shows percentage of int. students but that doesn't necessarily mean a higher acceptance rate.

Many unis here follow the theory that ability to pay =/= acceptance/increase chances of acceptance. Private schools don't care b/c they have the same sticker price for everyone, it's only public schools that raise prices for out-of-state/int. students.

What are your grades/test scores like? Do you have anything that'd make you stand out? I can give you some suggestions based on that.

Why don't you just apply to UK universities? Even for an international student, the fees will be much less expensive. You have top tier universities that are on par with any US ones in terms of both education, prestige and networking (Oxbridge), there's LSE which is top tier for finance and pretty much guarantees you a placement at a bulge bracket bank/boutique/hedge fund/PE shop, and there's others like Imperial College London (kind of like the MIT of the UK) which will open many doors if you want to work in the sciences.

Also, UK university selection is much more academic than American top universities - you don't need to be the captain of your school + play sport to a high level + volunteer and all that shite to get in: if you only ever sit in your room and do maths you can still get into Cambridge for maths if you're good enough, etc.

Not sure for USA, but how it works in the UK is that the university will sponsor you through a PhD program if you get accepted: it's not a ballin salary (it's roughly £20,000 a year, give or take), but it's enough to live cheaply on. All universities do this, from the top tier right down to the bottom.

Not sure whether this also applies to international students, but I imagine it should - after all, by doing a PhD you sign yourself up as a marking/teaching/research assistant slave for the university - you're doing them a favour.
