Sup guys. I normally browse /fit/ but I need some advice on how buy clothes when I plan to get them tailors. Whenever a shirt fits my shoulders, it's too long and loose for my torso. Pants are either too tight on my ass and quads or too loose on my waist. I used to just wear athletic fit tees and v-necks and Levi's 514's, but I got a new job that requires business attire. My girlfriend grimaces whenever she sees me in my work clothes. I don't blame her because I look like shit swimming in my clothes.

Also, if anyone in NYC is browsing right now, how much do tailors cost?

You know you could buy a suit that fits you sorta okay with what looks to be good materials n such and then go to the tailor and just fix what looks/feels shitty. If you're on a budget that's helluvalot cheaper.
In Sweden where I live, I did some changes to my graduation suit (tightened it up in the back, narrowed the legs by the ankles, shortened the legs and the arms by like 2 cm:s) and it was about 180 dollars (1500 swedish crowns).

So go look for a nice suit!

Good enough advice but you missed some critical information

A tailor can only fit so much. When you buy a suit, or a dress shirt, just make sure it fits exactly as you want in the shoulders and armholes. These cannot be changed. In addition, anything that is too small cannot be made bigger within more than a centimeter, so go a little looser if you have to. Also, the overall length of the torso needs to match yours. If you take it in too far it starts eating the outer pockets and looks really bad. Everything else can be brought in.

NYCfag reporting in. Depends where you get it tailored. Somewhere around the 20-50$ range. Also depends on what part of NYC you get it in.

This is the exact answer I was looking for. Thanks a bunch. Anything that can't be changed with pants?
