Also does anyone know some boots like these yuketen boots? I can't seem to find them anywhere.

shitty mallcore brand apparently, but cannot find any negative reviews of the brand anywhere. i bought their brown wingtips and they are comfy and look good and better quality than john varvatos imo.

how are these for every day uni use? i would wear them under tweed or cotton patterned trousers with a heritagey look and a scarf. i do want these to make the look a bit more punk and less grandad since my wingtips are way too fancy everyday.

the reason they "remind you of moccasins" is because they are made with moccasin construction techniques

And since I was going to respond to your original post anyway, here is the first negative review you will get for the boots you were considering: they look like shit. Look at that cheap-ass leather. Look at that ugly belt thing. It's an ugly piece of throwaway mall fashion for people who aren't willing to put up the cash for the real thing.

I don't expect that one day you will have a revelation and think moccasins are totally your style. But I expect you might learn to appreciate a good one when you see one, if only on somebody else's feet. There's a crucial difference between saying something "is ugly" and saying something "isn't for me": the latter is a statement about how something fits into your own vision or your own style, the former is a statement about how something fits into any style at all. Be careful going around saying things are "ugly" when you clearly don't even know very much about them.

no because I (probably) know more about boots than you do, and the ones you posted are genuinely failing to achieve the look they want to have. They will look cheap and lame relative to other boots in any fit. No matter how you wear them, something else could always look better.

>>6774536
the shoes tend to be true to size and the boots/chukkas tend to be a bit large. Sizing down 1/2 for maine guide boots is usually a good idea. The problem is that Yuketen works with a variety of manufacturers and therefore a variety of different lasts, so what is true of one of their shoes may not be true of another. Still, it tends to be the case that the shoes are true to size and the boots run large.

>> No.6774641

>>6774536
>>6774605
...I should add that it's not always the case necessarily. End clothing says their ripple sole oxfords run slightly large, and they're probably right.

It's not easy anyway.

I'll give you my thoughts on the size for the three types of Yuketen I own, though I'd take it with a grain of salt:

The Maine Guide Boot runs a half size large.

The Tokyo runs true to size, although it's a little bit longer than I would normally expect.

The mismatch chukkas are ever so slightly big, so if you're between sizes, size down.

Depends how they fit, which may not be perfect, because you can't undo the break-in process; they're broken in to some other guy's feet, so you'd better hope his feet are pretty close to yours. I hope you're happy with the look of the leather as-is, because I doubt you can do much to revive it.

That said, they're not inherently ugly boots. I hope you have only the workweariest fits in mind for them

Are you me? I've been asking /fa/ for the past two weeks the exact same question. I have size 14 US feet.

Basically, /fa/ told me that yeah, Iron Rangers have a large toe box and will look like clown shoes. They recommended Wolverine 1000 miles instead. The problem is that they're $350, and you can't get them at a discount on eBay like you can with Iron Rangers.

My searching has lead me to Chippewa Apache boots. They seem to have a smaller toebox, they're recommended by mfa and rawr denim (which may or may not be a good thing), and they're only $120.

Which is why I came to this thread. I want to ask what you guys think of these boots.

I've never liked them but that's just because I'm obsessed with leather, and the leather just doesn't look great. For 120, they look like a good value. But $120 boots don't do much for me. I think $300 is a perfectly appropriate amount for a pair of boots.

The problem, as I see it, is that everyone comes to this board needing to get a pair of boots last-minute. The school year's starting, only have $150 to spend, need boots. I mean, you CAN get boots for cheap, but you should have saved some money and avoided wasting $120 on a temporary solution.

So I have up to one thousand dollars to spend on a pair of boots. I'd love to get a pair of black dayton boots, but I want them before summer so I can't wait the 80+ days to have them made.

I also have weirdly shaped feet that are quite wide and high, so I really want to be able to try on a pair of boots before I make the purchase. I'm thinking of having barneys send a few pairs i'm interested in to my local store so I can try them on. anyone have any good suggestions?

I want them to be black, with mid to high tops. I also like buckles and zippers because it can sometimes to be hard to fit my weirdly shaped feet into shoes. I usually end up buying shoes to big for me because those are the only ones I can fit into.

pic related are marsell boots which I like for $1045, a bit more than I wanted to spend, but I would def buy them if they fit well.

But I really want dayton boots for the gripping soles since where I live it snows a great deal and I my job involves a lot of walking and moving around outside.

They're expensive, consequently exclusive, trips have them and you don't. That's why /fa/ loves CPs.

On the real I think they look great and they're well made shoes, but don't get hung up on the brand worship that goes on here on /fa/.

they run pricey because they are very limited runs. it costs a helluva lot more per-boot to make 2,500 pairs of boots in a specialty shoe workshop than it does to make 100,000 pairs contracted out to some chinese sweatshop. High quality workmanship and exclusive materials will make a boot expensive.

Really though, just get a job and save up more money. I work 2 shit jobs for 70+ hrs a week and am able to find money to buy hi-end items right when them come out at the stores.

Thats true. And i plan on making them about 16(tall)x12(wide)x(7deep) it would be kind of square is, tapering slightly to the top where tr draw string is, and it would have a flap covering that, alond with 2 leather straps that run along top of the flap allowing you to close it vis a buckle. In front of that would be another pouch with a simmilar layout, then to the left of the bag on its side it would have a large thermo holder pouch, and to the right it would have something similar o molle patch work on the side allowing you to attach a knife sheath ot whatever. The bottem would be made of deerskin, with a layer of plastic and a later of cloth ontop that(leather outside, this is te innards, so the plastic is enclosed in the bag) the bottems would extend onto the sides of the bag for about 3.5 inches, in which it will then switch to canvas. Witht the back of the pack where the shoulder strands are being leather aswell, an moving up to the flap it would be canas trimmed with eleather

yeah I like mine, but IIRC the trench ones are made in New York, presumably by a different manufacturer. So who knows how much our shoes actually have in common.

Oak Street makes a great shoe, anyhow. wear whatever you want, I guess? They're goofy-looking shoes so you just wear them like you don't give a shit, they work with shorts or pinrolled jeans or whatever. If you can't picture yourself wearing them with anything, don't cop, I guess

Like I said, the nicest pair of footwear I have is the Wolverine 1ks and a pair of calf AE Kenworths(I think that's the model name)

How would you rank the overall quality of each brand? Leather/suede, construction etc.

I wore Eastlands for about a year and on a day to day basis they did the trick. They weren't SUPER comfortable, but they weren't uncomfortable either. There is some weird lining on the inside so you don't get to feel the leather as well. I wore them for a week building a house and they pretty much fell apart, but they are a good first pair of boot to get used to wearing boots.

doing raf simmons rick owens doesn't necessarily mean not being yourself. Poet owns Geobaskets IIRC, and I'd say he does his own thing, if anyone does.

rating the quality of each brand? Alright, I'll give you my take as briefly as I can.

Grenson's low-end line doesn't feel very expensively made. It's good for its price, but for that kind of shoe you really need to pay an arm and a leg for quality. I just like the design of the Archie. The sole is not vibram. The shoe itself is very light. Pretty comfy though.

Oak Street makes very nice footwear, I can't really complain, except that the insoles seem to be slowly slipping forward and outward. You can kind of see it in the picture.

Yuketen makes structurally more complex shoes, but the leathers they use aren't as nice as Chromexcel IMO: on my maine guide boots, the leather's surface is becoming rough. Their cheaper options like chukkas are virtually identical to Quoddy's unlined equivalents (I've tried both), but they cost about the same, too.

Red Wing's shoes are extremely stiff out of the box, mine haven't fully broken in yet. The 8881 is a roughout suede type of material, so it's not quite as nice as unlined leather that you find in some of the other boots like the 8138. The oxfords are actually really shit, the leather isn't pull-up and it feels pretty cheap compared to other red wing leathers, also the inside of the toe is lined with some kind of fabric. I like them anyway cuz I didn't pay too much

I can't do much better than echoing an previous poster but I'll add my voice to his. They're not the same value as something like Red Wing, but you're not paying for markup. You're paying for craftsmanship, materials, etc. You're also paying a little bit for inefficiency.

So whether they're "worth" the price you pay is hard to say, but you're not going to find the same quality for a lower price somewhere else.

yuketen keeps a pretty good stockists page, you should bookmark it and just keep checking through those stores during sale season. SSENSE sometimes drops the price really low on unpopular models, one neat pair of yuketen wraparound crepe sole boots was a hundred and something in their recent sale

I don't usually stress too much over whether shoes can "go" with a certain pair of pants, if it looks bad when I check my fit in the mirror in the morning, I change something. for the most part shoes aren't very outfit-dependent if you're dressing basic though, just don't couple loud shoes with anything else loud

I don't think there should be anything wrong with pairing them with those pants

Well don't be too hard on yourself. It's counter productive. You'll learn more from making mistakes than you will from wearing light gray tees with black jeans and vans like most people on this board do.

Anyway, what I'm going to emphasize is the importance of contrast in value. Dark vs. light. Since you're white like me the general safe route to go is desaturate your entire wardrobe. This doesn't mean rid it of color, just keep the colors muted and dark or faint and pale. When someone says "wear complementary colors" don't wear bright purple and yellow. Try a very dark desaturated purple jacket over a very light washed out yellow shirt, almost just off-white.

Blue and orange? Don't do the fucking bright orange tie on a blue shirt 'power combo'

Very faint light rusted orange tee, deep navy jacket.

>> No.6782443

>>6782404
Fit on the right honestly isn't bad. Weakest point is the lack of contrast in value between the light gray and the red. Make that image black and white and you've basically got black pants with mid-gray on mid-gray on top with a slight bit of contrast between the grays. You want more than that.

Honestly the fit on the left is better in the color department than most of what you've posted. Don't be afraid to try it again once you're content with your body. I would just uncuff the jeans because they make you look shorter and maybe swap the GATs for some black plimsolls. White works but solid black would make everything so crisply partitioned.

If red's your favorite color then rock it by all means. I really love dark red with dark brown, black and off white. I'll just do three of the four if the weather's too warm for layers. I feel like a pretty leaf yo 8)
Shit's cash.

Basically when you think of color combinations always always always include pinkish off-white (it's the color of your skin and will be in every one of your fits.)

Man that green cardi is so close to being something I'd want. If only it were a little darker and not so saturated. It looks good, not difficult to pull off. I Just feel it would be more versatile in a darker green.

Are you telling me about your recent purchases for me to critique/give suggestions or what? Don't really like the varsity tbh. Gray and black is fairly safe but I feel the gray should either be much darker or much lighter. The camo sweater's pretty ugly imo.

I kind of don't dig the strips at all on the jacket but I didn't think it was a big deal. I do agree with you about the cardi being to green, i was looking for an olive cardigan to go with the filson scarlet mackinaw cruiser i bought

>> No.6782763

>>6782699
Honestly the saving grace of that camo is that the base color is light. Gives you a lot of appealing contrast options. My first choices would be navy or dark green jackets. Cardi's not dark enough to look good with it imo though. I think the color of the camo is fine. I just never liked the resurgence of camo in the first place. I don't really like looking at it...

protip: if you're looking for an item do not fucking settle for anything similar ever. Ever. I always have a short to-purchase list in my head of some very specific items. Every few months or so I'll enter a store to find something I'm looking for while I'm in the area and I probably leave empty handed more than half the time. This was not always the case with me. It was definitely a turning point when I noticed I stopped settling. The clothes I wanted stopped being things I saw then wanted. They were clothes I imagined then found. It's way more satisfying and it makes your wardrobe much more personal. On top of that you should already be able to visualize how to wear it.

Nah man I've got vision. I know exactly how I want to dress. There are a ton of pieces I like that I have no interest in wearing.

Anyway I can't really help you with the jacket. It wasn't an m65 but stance wore a nice looking green parka in a recent WAYWT. He's a bit of a cunt though so he probably won't tell you where to get it.

People will tell you to go surplus but that will be baggier than anything else. In America, 'it fits' literally means you can fit your appendages through the holes. Bigger clothes 'fit' more people so most of our military gear runs wide.

As far as slim fit military jackets your best bet is fast fashion if you need it to be really cheap. Though I would just look into some nicer brands until you find one that suits your qualifications, see if it's on eBay and try to get it used. I would go for a nice used jacket over a cheap new one. I haven't really looked at anything in like a year though just because I've got other financial priorities so I really have no idea what online second hand retail culture is like. Ask some friendly more experienced trips for tips. Or dig through the sticky.

Good luck man.
