This jacket is really worth it. I got for 85 on ebay with tags, it's made of that old 70's nylon and is the closest you're going to get to a nostromo jacket without going full replica, IMO.

To add, if you can't find an original and you don't want to settle for chinese-made lesser incarnations, you have another option: Buzz Rickson and Real McCoys. There are companies that've basically made their market by selling 100% historically accurate repros of older military jackets. They're probably the best MA-1s and Tanker jackets on the market, and construction/materials used reflect that.

Oh God that's awesome. I've always liked shoes that use varied materials like that. Like Bean boots, or these workman's tabi boots I have with rubber toes, rubberized cotton around a little less than half of the rest the of the foot section of the upper, and standard cotton on the rest of it, decreasing in weight at each step. Heavier material where you need more water resistance, stepping back as possible for breathability.

I've got a question: how did you go about developing this to the point where you could make those introductory posts on /fa/? I remember you posting one time it was about a year between the idea and when you made the first few threads.

I've got something like an idea for something, and it makes perfect sense to me, but I'm not sure /fa/ would get the connection between the disparate influences, and I'm not sure how to present it all.

To answer your question, I started with a mood board and invited everyone to join - the original is in fuuka somewhere and could easily be found by searching fuuka for instances of pic related.
The first step is to list all the influences in an appealing fashion, the second step is to tie them all together. How you do this is the real art of it, IMO. The nifty thing about Lunarcore is it's totally different yet accessible at various pricepoints via various designers. Recontextualizing existing garments into uber-competent pop-sci tropes is the magic.

There a few heavily distressed Prps jackets available on Ebay that are from when the company did all production with heritage materials in Japan. Get one of those, in my opinion. Otherwise? The Quilted Nylon Recolite Overshirt from Gstar is a great option. It's 100% oldschool nylon, no visible branding, muted beige, beefy zip and 85 bux with tags from a certain retailer on Ebay who I've used myself.
Thirdly, lemme remind you that the beauty of the style is how effortlessly you could slip any old heritage piece into the mix, even some old hunting jacket you already own, as long as you keep the rest of the fit heavy in enough raw tech to change the meaning of the hunting jack. You feel me?

They also make them in a grey color, but I think the white is better for this application on account of the orange detail in the top lace hole. The grey has a blue detail.

Very unlikely. The sizing on yoox is mostly spot on, since they also show conversions. There must be something else wrong with that. Yoox doesn't give a fuck at times too. I got sent multiple wrong items once and used stuff with lots of open threads

I haven't posted on /fa/ in a looooong time, but I have been lurking. Posted often for a while way back when Knoch still occasionally posted fits and through the beginning of prep/"dadcore" being cool. I appreciate the "gothninja" aesthetic, but it doesn't work on me personally, so I've been visiting from time to time without posting. I just wanted to say that I really dig these threads and always enjoy reading them. I love militaristic style, especially with a rough, degraded aesthetic feel, and mixing in elements of obselete tech is a cool idea. Fits more with my own dark/military/dirty prep personal style.

Anyway I doubt anyone who posts here now would remember me, but I used to do a lot of image dumps of British mod and first wave skinhead pics, and also mid-century American Ivy league stuff. Back when stylegod used to do prep dumps. Just wanted to drop in and show my approval for this new trend on /fa/.

This is by far the most interesting aspect of lunarcore to me. Watched For A Few Dollars More yesterday and I wondered why we don't really see items anymore that cater both to function and beauty, except for maybe some minimalist tech-wear, but there's no personal touches anymore.

I think that's a little limiting because it ignores the potential for mutation over time, which is usually what gives us things like turntablism & chaos theory. We always get more out of the future than we put into the present; that's the magic (or horror) of it.

I've actually thought about this one a bit, and I think that (bear with me) certain years of Diesel (late 90's-early oughts) and G-Star, combined with surplus and Western/Southern touches (small ones, like a boot or a hat or the yoke of a shirt), could be an excellent starting point for the look.
One film to look at would be a really shitty old 80's flick called Hardware, and of course Mad Max, Steamboy, Django, various Clint pieces, etc etc etc.

Can't seem to find a late '90s/early 2000s diesel show, but I get where you are going with the G-star. Especially their 3D line of pants. They've got some sort of futuristic workwear thing going in some of their products.

Diesel's put out so much it's near impossible to be specific, but if you look hard, you'll find weird retrotech garments like pic related that you probably can't find anywhere else.
Some of the 3D line is really interesting - they often cross right into subtle western details with occasional releases.

Since i stumbled across /fa/ and specifically this thread i'd like to ask you about something. Several years ago i've seen a few photos of some designer jacket that looked much like Killy's jacket. It was greenish-brown with some wires and tubes, lot's of patches and had heavy worn look. It probably was made in japan. Anyone happen to have mentioned photos?
