there is nothing inherently wrong with CDB, they're just very popular and people tend to use them as their only pair of shoes. so they give off a vibe that suggests that you got desert boots to satisfy all your shoe needs. but they're not bad shoes.

there's nothing inherently wrong with boat shoes either. it's just the extreme popularity (particularly with the 'bro' crowd) and the generally low quality of Sperry that makes them seem like pleb shoes. a good pair of boat shoes can still look good with the right fit and weather.

As for Red Wing, I don't know that they've been given the same treatment as CDB or boat shoes. For one, they'll never be the next CDB because they're more expensive. For most "normal" people, the most they'd pay for shoes is in the 100-200 range. So while they have picked up a considerable degree of popularity, it's nothing compared to what Sperry and Clark's get.

It seems like most of the hate for the shoes' shapes comes from people who expect Red Wing to be something else. Like people who bought the Iron Ranger thinking it would be a sleek classic boot and weren't prepared for a chunky-looking work boot. Then there's people who hate moc toe shoes/boots no matter what. I don't know that people are all suddenly 'realizing' that Red Wing shoes look a little funny, I think a lot of newcomers are just not noticing it, and then when they do, they feel they dodged some kind of bullet or accidentally bought "clown shoes". Nothing wrong with Red Wing anyhow

>> No.6763503

>>6763453
also, as is the case with all three, /fa/ posters have a tendency to think a piece is inherently un-/fa/ after seeing a few bad fits with them. it's way too easy to find bad fits with boat shoes, clark's, or red wing. eventually their mind makes the link that "iron rangers = ironheart forum sperglords". Is that going to happen to Common Projects? I don't know, but at current prices, I doubt it.

>> No.6763511

Most of the problem lately is that the urban streetwear and Rick lovers are just louder than everyone else, and flood threads about anything they don't like. There are still some of us here that wear CDBs, Red Wings, etc

It used to be that /fa/ could talk more than one style at once, and people mostly stayed out of threads about styles they didn't like. It was basically MFA but mean, and it was much better that way.

I don't know why DBS were ever in, very very few of them are nice and the shoe overall feminizes a males figure with it's graceful elf like silhouette

CDBS are fine, no one complains unless you can't find a fucking tailor

red wings were never a nice silhouette, massive clunky toe, 'classic' inspired colourways. they were hyped and looked nice on the internet, novice /fa/ggots and MFAers alike bought them, and them along with those of us privy to WAYWT posts began to realize that they don't work on any of the currently popular trends as they're more of a vintage/workwear styled item, and that there are less clunky, nicer coloured alternatives that fit a larger range of styles at varying levels of quality (higher and lower). Other less discerning fashionistas were left behind (MFA, parts of SF)

Boat shoes are alright, but some people can be purists, "don't wear it if you don't intend to use it how it should be used",
>implying basically every shoe design was not originally designed for a specific purpose but casualness and demand have watered down those traditional designs to the current market the market.

you have to filter /fa/ for what it's worth to support your developing fashion; concerning yourself with all the fads or listening to everything you hear here can diminish your confidence in what you have, at the end of the day you have to take your own path, the lesson to learn is not everyone will ever be satisfied with you, and that everyone secretly enjoys watching others fail from time to time.

>and them along with those of us privy to WAYWT posts began to realize that they don't work on any of the currently popular trends as they're more of a vintage/workwear styled item
>began to realize ... they're more of a vintage/workwear styled item

I don't know how people got to thinking anything else in the first place.

If people just noticed in the first place that Red Wings have that look, and didn't expect them to be sleek (God knows why anybody did), there wouldn't be this "realization" that turned into a harsh reaction against a perfectly good brand.

>> No.6763935

>>6763867
>there wouldn't be this "realization" that turned into a harsh reaction against a perfectly good brand.

very true, I think at some point there was a boom of users across the boards, /fa/ and /fit/ particularly, where there was a lack of knowledge about how a silhouette worked or general lack of education that lead to their popularization.
I have nothing against the style or company, and a lot of people are still satisfied with the product.

I think it's because /fa/'s rough guideline got reposted on MFA and /fa/, not unlike the rest of 4chan, has disdain for anything Reddit related. Additionally fashion trends do change, I'm not even sure what the status of snapbacks is beyond I only see white guys wearing them at my college and black guys seem to have moved on. Same with baggy pants

What is new and exciting today is played out tomorrow, I think if you're a beginner you should just invest in some timeless basics. T shirts are still acceptable, right?

There isn't such a thing as a perfect fit. Every fit makes a certain shape. If materials are casual and you wear it casualy (in a sense that you are not breaking the norm in situation where you shouldnt break the norm - like buissnies meeting, wedding...) you can play and have a lot of fun with all sorts of shirts. Boat shoes have never been liked here. I've been on/off /fa/ pretty much since the board's inception, and I can assure you that the majority of people here tend to dislike boat shoes. I think they can work well in some fits, but I don't particularly like them either.

As for CDBs, honestly /fa/'s hate stems from their popularity and MFA. Way more /fa/ users cross post to MFA than any of us would like to admit, and most things trickle from here over after some time. There was a time, around a year ago, when the MFA logo was actually the reddit alien, in a CDB. Anything that popular on reddit cannot be liked on 4chan due to the basic relationship between the sites. CDBs look fine, just basic.

Red Wings were a niche piece that got trendy fast. People realized that they shouldn't really be worn all the time.
