I don't shoe trees. I mink oil on them once last year might do it again soon. I just wear them and brush them if they get dirt or stuff on them. The quality on these is pretty good for being over 40 years old.

Mink oil isn't the best for boot leather. It's mainly used for work boots or things like saddle leather. You permanently lose the ability to get a good shine (they'll shine somewhat, but never high-gloss). Also, boots will age regardless. I have no idea why anyobe would want to speed up the process. Just enjoy how it changes over the different stages of its life.

tl;dr mink oil will give it a bit of a beat up look anyway.
