i'm looking for boots
here's some that i like
i was wondering if i could get opinions and recommendations/general boot knowledge

the only boots i've ever bought were $20 for a construction related job
i like the desert boot look, and the high laced up look
something i could wear in the rain would be a major bonus

i don't want to spend $300+

>> No.6688625

how bout you narrow it down to just 5 of those?

the ones you love the most and are versatile.

Most likely Kats. Chippewa doesn't sell cap-toes directly as far as I know, they only make them for LL Bean.

The plain toe Apaches look better anyway

OP, stay away from the high-laced look for the most part, it usually looks shitty. 6" or less is best.

I would say get a pair of desert boots and a pair of Chippewa Apaches (your pic #8, but no toe cap and half the price)

to be more useful...

i own a pair of red wing work chukkas and they're very solid. take some time to break in. they'll go with anything casual.

i own a pair of us made chippewa black odessa boots. they're okay for the price which is fine for someone who is looking to try something new.

>> No.6688954

you can look for waterproof boots if you want but you can buy sno-seal for smooth leather boots. the wax will protect the leather and if you use a color creme before the wax you can preserve the leather even further.

avoid leather soles

>> No.6688974

>>6688954
>avoid leather soles
Leather soles are great, way more comfortable than rubber usually. They aren't great in rain or snow, but if you live somewhere where that's a problem you can get a thin (THIN!) layer of vibram put on them

>> No.6689007

>>6688884
i like the Apaches, but i'm not crazy about the sole

>>6688933
i really like the odessa, but i'm not sure if i can pull off black

i really like the colors of 7 & 8 if anyone knows boots in those colors

thanks for the advice so far /fa/
which are your least favorites out of the list /fa/?

Definitely no eyesores. I'm not crazy about 2 or 5, but that's just me, nothing wrong with them. I like 1 and 4 best, Chippewas are great. It's come up in the thread, but 1 (Katadhins) are just rebranded Chippewa Apaches with a cap toe, so if you don't care about the cap toe you can get the standard Apaches for half the price of the Kats (and there's a lug sole variant if you like that better)

>> No.6689661

The LL Bean boots are pretty much the best boot for dollar on that list in my mind. I'd grab them, and some SnoSeal and run with them till I wore the bastards out.

Clark's Desert boots are probably on sale under 100 somewhere on the Internet. They are pretty much the lowest you can go and still expect some sort of quality.

>> No.6689849

>>6689705
Are you talking about buying them direct from the manufacture?

It used to make a lot more sense, because they offered the exact same boot, for around 70$. And when I say exact same, I mean literally the exact same.

Now, things are a little different, and while I agree the toecap may not be worth the extra cash, I still stand by them as the best choice because of LL Bean being behind them. If you've ever dealt with the company before on returns/warranties or any issue, you'd understand where I am coming from with that.

>> No.6689857

Save up, buy better and fewer items. Fall isn't till October, you still have a month and a half to scrape together 50bucks.

>>6689849
Plus, I really fucking hate the massive stamp on the side of the boots.

>> No.6689960

>>6689849
Buying from Chippewa directly, or getting Apaches anywhere else. I have heard that LL Bean is great about returns, but I usually don't base decisions on that. I trust anything from Chippewa to last a good while.

Hating the stamp is legit though. It's obnoxious, but jeans cover it so I don't mind too much.

>> No.6689971

>>6689960
I base a lot on customer service, more than I should most likely.

But you are right, paying 80 for a toe cap and less annoying branding is a little on the silly side.

But over all, I still like the LL Bean model more than the Chippewa model.

As a bonus, with LL Bean you don't need to unlace your boots to remove that stupid flag either.

I do hear you though.

Hey guys, I didn't want to start a new thread in case it's against the rules. But seeing as this is a boots thread..

How would you describe the boots the model is wearing? What would they be called?

The website I got the picture from no longer has them in stock I don't think.
