I found him and got it back really quick though.

My headset + Ipod though was gone, gone. The headsets were the IE 7s from Sennheiser. My backups are a pair of CX 300s, and a pair of really cheap sennheiser buds I picked up the day my IE 7s were robbed from HMV, I think they ran 20$.

Really have the urge to buy a new solid set again, but I feel weird doing it with two good enough pairs sitting about.

Beyerdynamic is great. Without getting too technical a headphone with 250 Ohms will need a dedicated amplifier to get it loud enough. An 80 Ohm headphone won't need it.

Getting somewhat technical: Ohms is a measure of resistance. Resistance to electrical current.

Most out of this world headphones require a dedicated amp anyway. They all have high ohms. Like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-9969-HD-650-Headphones/dp/B00018MSNI..

300 Ohms input impedance.

Even 300 ohm head phones can be plugged in without an external amp and sound fine.

But it's like a having a good pair of headphones, once you have a good amp you can't go back.

I bought the parts and made the amp that some engineer with wayyyy too much time one his hands decided to make:

"Ohms" or more specifically impedance of a pair of headphones varies across your hearing range 0 - 20000 Hz.

Having a high impedance headphones minimizes electrical distortion.

Treble, bass, and mids are all part of the 0 - 20000 Hz range and totally depend the impedance.
