Hey everyone, im about to do my motorcycle lessons and i figured id ask what you chaps thought i should get helmet and jacket wise? i already have the trousers and boots (n the picture) but is a red jacket too much? what would you change or get?

Helmet wise i was thinking nothing too pricey since i intend to get a car when i can afford one.

Jacket can be whatever though because if its really good i could wear it casually regardless right?

Also this thread can be for your motorcycle fashion/discussion too if you like.

If you're looking for red like oxblood, a natural leather colour, Schott will have it. If you're looking for trackstar red, try Alpine Stars or something. Schott doesn't make super durable jackets either. They'll save your skin, but they're made for people who know how to ride. And get real riding gloves. Those are a joke.

If there's one thing you spend money on, it should be a helmet. Don't buy a used helmet because cushioning does go bad after a few years of wear. If you can't afford the gear, you can't afford to ride a motorcycle.

For riding, you want something thick. If you want the Perfecto style jacket, just look at Schott. If not, get a cafe racer (also made by Schott). I would recommend the 641. It saved my backside once.

Cars are less dangerous for drivers than motorcycles are. And motorcycles are harder to manage. It's kind of ridiculous how easy it is to get a motorcycle license, as opposed to a car license, but where I live you have to do a weekend course of all the safety basics, so I guess it's like mandatory driving school. A motorcycle is not "easier" than a car, and if you really truly believe that, I don't think you should get a bike at all.

With a bit of wind the most you'll be able to go is 50 too, that's why I'm concerned. An integral part of motorcycle safety is the ability to twist that thing and be out of a dangerous situation in no-time. My country just started doing 125cc 11kw licenses too and it's the dumbest thing I've seen them do in about 2 years. And they do some hideously dumb shit.

I guess i don't have a helmet to compare it too, but Arai has suited me so far, will have to replace it next year and will probs get the same one. I live in the city so the bright Fluoro is a nice thing to have, i see some people have fluro vests which they put over their jackets, but that would be a pain.

To the OP , the most /fa/ gear you wear depends on your bike, cruisers have the leather jackets cutoffs ect, whilst sportsbikes have the more racer type jackets , alpinestars and the like. depends on what your tastes are.
Your current choice, a Yamaha 125, is seen as beginner bike and has little power, or style. So i doubt you will be very /fa/ on a bike like that, regardless what you wear. So just buy the cheapest/safest you gear you can afford, unless you wish to continue your love for bikes into the future, and want to shell out a few bucks.

I like the classic styling, but be very wary of the fit. Aero jackets are usually looser fitting, not boxy, but loose-ish. Aero makes the best leather jackets in terms of quality leather and craftsmanship. If you were to buy an Aero, it is best to get one tailored, and not stock.

Okay. Quick points about /fa/ motorcycle riding.

Cafe racers are /fa/. Cruisers are cool but usually have a bit too much "middle-aged loser"-image. Sport bikes are definitely not /fa/ and should be left to 1) people who want to go really fast on a track, 2) people who want to go have a really uncomfortable riding position on the street. Street bikes are OK - they're not /fa/ but they're not shit either.

When it comes to gear, don't cheap out. The helmet is the most important piece. Wear a full helmet - there are no excuses.

Schott NYC make great jackets, but they're essentially the same as they were 50 years ago and as such they lack modern protection. You'll at least want to get a back protector even if it'll get a bit hot.

Denim jeans are not acceptable. Skidding with them on will turn your legs into road crayons anyway. Get kevlar jeans, preferrably by Draggin (https://www.dragginjeans.net/).). Seriously, do it.

When it comes to boots, you're going to want something sturdy. They need to go up above the ankles and they need to be a tight fit. You don't want them to come off if you start skidding. Steel-toe boots are also recommended.

I personally use a pair of Red Wing Engineer Boots (model 2268).

>> No.6573540

The style is great, but what I really love is the colour of horsehide.

Yeah, you would have to contact them. Give them your measurements. Actually, if you look around in the website, you will find directions on how to measure yourself properly. The tailors operate on this information.

When I say "tailor", I mean "built from the ground, up". This jacket is going to be expensive, like $900 to $1200.

Now, if you're smart, take a look at Alexander Leathers. This company has former Aero employees, and they make their jackets in Scotland. You have many hides to choose from, and you even get to choose your own Tartan lining!
