There's no way to tell for sure, but given its already long history and the way it pulls in & reinterprets so many outside sources? It's probably going to just be slowly watered down and pushed to the mainstream, and end up sitting there fir a very long time in one form or another.
In my view, this look has been building since the 80's. It's attained considerable momentum since those early Rei & Yohji shows and it's too diffuse at this point to really be considered a 'fad' in the traditional sense.

>> No.6462954

>>6462929

Thanks for that actually thought-out answer. After reading it I can understand where you're coming from and agree. Even though this style is difficult to transition into the mainstream would probably adapt it.

abstracted and shape based clothing never really ceases to be relevant, even when the original work itself becomes dated. there isn't a "next" in this sense; no one is going to stop riffing on poiret or fortuny or chanel and i don't think people will stop reappropriating ideas from the work of yamamoto or rick or galliano in the future. i can tell you that the next step isn't going to be a stupid gimmick and it won't be in tiresome reworkings of minutiae which has passed for menswear in a lot of circles up until now. but if you want to know what h&m or whoever is going to be aping in the future, i'd watch promising students who are already proposing interesting things with shape and cutting, the next generation building on owens who built on vionnet, and guess at what part of their aesthetic could be cheaply copied and reliably sewn by bangladeshi wage slavery.
