I wear grandparent's wedding band, they were married before sometime ww2.

story; during WW2, they were expecting their first child. My grandfather had signed up to fight (in the pacific, because Australia).

Their first child, a girl, was born while he was still in training. Both his wife and newborn daughter (named Janet) were very, very affected by a difficult childhood (my grandmother was a tiny woman). It was looking pretty dire for the baby.

My grandfather up & hopped a boxcar back to his sick wife and daughter. I'm not so sure if he was able to make it back before his daughter died.

Naturally, the army arrested him. He was locked up for a week or two then released back into training. The brass must have understood what was happening, I guess.

A few years later, my aunt was born, healthy and alive. 5 years after her, my grandmother had twins.

They agreed that twins (my mother and her twin) were a gift to make up for the pain they suffered losing their first child.

I'm ok wearing their ring, no matter if it doesn't fit my outfit, or occasionally cuts my hand when I lift stuff. My older brother has one that matches. We're not sure which is my grandfathers' or which is my grandmother's. It doesn't matter, because they were both incredible people.
