What magazines do you guys read?

What's the best men's fashion magazine?

>> No.6404034

Complex is the best men's fashion magazine.

haha good joke

>> No.6404060

used to read GQ and Empire, sometimes Top Gear because it's witty and I like cars

Then internet became on my phone and in little tablets and magazines stopped making sense

I still buy Top Gear if they have a free thing with it, there was a book of James May's articles this month, quite enjoyed that

Thanks, anon. I laughed so hard I think I let out a little bit of pee. Don't forget Details too, right?

>>6404025
Esquire does not totally suck. Nylon can be OK, I like their buyers guides when they show a whole page of options on a theme.

Basically most magazines are terrible. I wish there were at least one I really found consistently useful but there isn't.

Kind of hard to stay fashionable when you haven't published in like 4 years.

A lot of japanese Streetwear ones are great, a local shop sells them at an insanely high markup but i still buy them because i'm a sheep.

I started a fashion magazine. It has no name and no identity, one month it is a pet magazine, the next a car magazine. you get the idea. Only when you open it you some bullshit. No ads either. Goodluck finding it.

Nylon Magazine here

>> No.6404393

>>6404344

Terrible. Nylon has been sinking into mediocrity since they lost their original editorial staff. The hey days and serious writing are long gone. If you like that vibe, stick with something like WAD or something.

>>6404025

There is no "best" because every magazine tries to do different things. I prefer magazines like Fantastic Man and Acne Paper because they're striking, original, and use the medium to its fullest.

>> No.6404498

Monicle wins.

Wait, you've never heard of it? Lol pleb.

My problem with a magazine like Acne Paper is that while it's elegantly rendered and laid out it isn't all that useful to me. I'm interested in seeing what is going on in men's style and discovering ways to improve my own. 4-5 photos of skinny boys wearing runway-esque stuff might help others but it doesn't help me.

It would be nice to have something like Nylon Guys for the non-streetwear crowd. What would be really useful to me is an article like this:

LINEN BLAZERS

Brief summary of why this is a good basic piece (for noobs), what's changed about this classic style over the years and this year (for fashionistas), and ways to wear that you might not have thought of (with a few photos of linen blazers on young men over striped shirts, elder Italian gents, basically showing a range). Some brief explanation of what makes an expensive one better and what to look for.

...then a Nylon-style buyer's guide with a grid of 12-18 linen blazers ranging from a $100 Zara one to a $500 SuitSupply one up to the usual $3000+ Tom Ford / Canali level. RELIABLE links on where to buy the stuff. Done.

Give me a magazine with a few of those every month and I'll be all SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY. I can use that.

Well, fashion moves too fast nowadays. Magazines that published monthly or quarterly aren't going to give you that of-the-moment snapshot that you're expecting. That's why blogs and news websites are so helpful.

That said, a lot of the Asian fashion publication market is very product-oriented, so things like Non-no might be helpful. The more sophisticated menswear magazines will do stories on a product or a garment, but the goal of a fashion magazine is rarely to be "instructional".

Because putting the New York Times and Esquire in the same category as Details pretty much invalidates the credibility of the entire chart.

>> No.6404892

My favourites are i-D, Dazed & Confused and 10. I also read Vogue, Clash and a bunch of other non-fashion related magazines (Empire, Total Film, Little White Lies, NewScientist, Oh Comely etc)

>> No.6404912

>>6404691

It doesn't necessarily have to be of-the-moment. Take my example of linen blazers: you know when summer is coming, you can produce and round up fit photos, and all of the designers' SS collections were shown a year ago. Even with the lead time before publication you have time to figure out which pieces will actually be produced. Accompany each product photo with the URL of the maker and a QR code that links to up-to-date purchase options.

Yes, collection overview magazines like GapPress exist and have existed for decades. Nobody makes everything that easy to shop because it weakens the exclusivity of a brand and makes it harder for the brand to control its image and presentation. All this effort spent complaining about magazines could have been used on...I dunno, actually looking at clothes in a store or something?

If you don't like me saying what I think would make a good magazine you don't have to keep reading.

You actually think physically traveling to multiple stores would be more efficient than a buyer's guide? (Does your time have no value?)

Yes. Nothing beats actually handling clothes and trying them on. On top of that, being in a store gives you a chance to see items merchandise together and you might even find things you didn't know you would like.

>> No.6405088

im not sure i follow. i wasn't making any assumptions about the guy who said details is good. that's why i asked him if it got better recently, and if he's actually read other stuff on the chart. they were earnest questions, not sarcastic.
