There will always be people who will just shit on whatever you do, or people who will give you false advice in hopes you manage to look worse than they do.
Just lurk more, there are some people with good suggestions, as well as basic /fa/ guides with general help.
But it's fashion... everyone likes their own style, not to mention something that looks good and works for one person, could look awful on another even if done verbatim, in a clothing item sense.
