oh, and two things on the laces.

first, that's not a granny knot, it just looks like it in the picture because one of the laces got caught on my leg somehow. I do know how to tie my shoes.

Second, I stole those from another pair of my shoes; they came looking like pic related. I paid only 140 for these ones, and they're reasonably comfy to walk in (for new shoes; I'm assuming they'll break in well, since Red Wings usually do), but the laces had to go. I'm going to try to find a place that will sell me some quality leather laces in the same color, because I really think they look better (and I don't want to take these out every time I want to wear the other pair).

Anyway, that's my shoes for the day. I'm reasonably happy with that purchase, and I think they might look fine once they wear in enough.

The only solution is to post constructive (I don't mean nice, just constructive) responses to individual posts or post better. Threads like this tend to bring out the people who generally don't post fits because you're still pretty anonymous, so there will be more entry-level, more dadcore, etc. I don't think that's a bad thing necessarily. I like to get a sense for what everyone wears, not just the few who post fits. While it would be cool (to me) to see more visvim or tricker's or some obscure and expensive shoes, it's more interesting to see what most people here actually wear.

Keep in mind that basic shoes might look good depending on how you wear them.

OP here. Not sure why you think I did it wrong. I go left lace in front for the first knot and right loop in front for the second, so it goes horizontal rather than vertical. In that pic they were turning to the diagonal, but I swear I didn't fuck up tying them. I don't know how I'd do it differently to avoid that.

people like sneakers for a lot of reasons, i think a common one is modernity. oxfords/handsewns are traditional shoes that have been worn for hundreds of years, and are associated with business and formality. personally, i want to avoid those associations. i like how some of them look, but i prefer more modern takes on oxford shoes, i like ann demeulemeester creepers, poell derbies, and raf chain derbies much more than mcnairys

I see them as symptomatic of an age of technology and detachment. And that nauseates me more perhaps because I've been attached to computers and technology since I was in elementary school. I used to be a "gamer", and I had my own computer before it was normal for kids my age to have one. I feel sort of victimized by it. Getting away from technology has been progression in my life. And moving toward oxford and handsewns is in no way a conservative move for me; I see it as a step forward.
