protip you can tell fake eames chairs with a glance

real eames chairs have threaded rubber bushings glued to the underside of the chair in a

"narrow mount" configuration so the bases are swappable

the only exception is holes drilled through the fiberglass (vintage/real) or plastic (herman miller/vitra licensed reproduction of real eames) or modernica (fake eames on old real herman miller molds considered more real than herman miller, older ones still had herman miller on the fiberglass) chairs that were upholstered and equipped with the stacking base or H bases

the fake ones from china have the cheap ass plastic mold jet out to accept a wrongly patterned base

all of his furniture is knock off

people like me spend a lot of time and money sourcing real shit

and I legit get pissed off when Korean/Chinese trash like this try to pass off their fakes as real shit.

I make the drive from north county san diego to fucking middle of nowhere palm springs, spend time and money restoring real knoll and herman miller pieces

this chink shit you can get on amazon for the fraction of the price of an authentic chair GLIDE just the GLIDE legit pisses me off

fit wise u can get fucked over

if your confident you can send measurement to charlie and he'll work with what you give him so it fits you, but you'll probably fuck it up.

instead get a stock size (fuck around the length at most), it'll be a lot easier to resell later if you ever want to get rid of it

get it in calf. drew pushes lamb and all his dick riders buy it cause hurrr so soft. but it wears down fast and isn't durable, unless u want a floppy tattered leather jacket then go for it

>> No.5974774

>>5974767
if the piece they're selling is fiberglass, and it has the herman miller mold in the bottom yet has BLACK or PURE WHITE glides

then it's a modernica replica passed off as real (craigslist likes to do this search LA craigslist and watch there is a guy in w.hollywood selling them)

real glides are milky white

a lot of people change the bases on scholastic layout task chairs and replace them with chrome or black bases

real eames chairs had ZINC plated bases

>you should know that most of /fa/ don't actually learn anything about fashion for themselves, it's all repeating what they're told.

Well, yeah. These are people who are going through the transition between wearing whatever and starting to care, they just want to fit in and join in on board discussions. Irritating perhaps but understandable.

Half of the people discussing any designer will be legitimate enthusiasts who know what's going on, and the other half will always be people looking to learn. This isn't new dude.

real talk, that guy is right and /fa/ / tumblr / the internet in general hasn't given a shit about undercover until the last year or two. 3 years ago those UC leathers were going for as little as $800 on Y! and now today you have fuccboi's trying to sell them for $1600, they didn't even retail for that much.

hype, hype, hype. if you don't see it then you're right in the middle of it.

P.S. there's a reason there's so many of those leathers floating around on the second hand market, it's because they fit like shit. pro-tip if you see any piece constantly coming up again and again it's because there's something wrong with it. there's a reason you never see stuff like crisp white dress shirts second hand, because they always fit spot on and go with everything.

you should always be trying to zone in on the people who are selling stuff because they're strapped for cash, have sizing problems, or they can't pull it off. this though is the minority, the majority of people are selling shit because the fit is whack / the piece is falling apart / somethings wrong with it. always question everyone's motives in the second market.

when you see something like those leathers come up again and again in every single size and colourway there's a reason for it.

Zinc plated hardware (should have a faded rough appearance like the inside of a penny when you scratch the copper off)

fiberglass

stickers in tact should say something along the lines of copyright 1959 IDR im not at home right now

and it should have a swooping H logo with HERMAN MILLER in all caps on the underside

the base should roughly be 6" apart bolt wise on the rear of the chair

and 4" apart on the front of the chair

should have black glue (residue is fine) on the bottom and a black washer that looks like its spacing the bolt from the fiberglass (but actually holds it on)

the glides should be off white like rick owens milk colorway

and a few other things depending on year

if you find zenith scoop it, its harder to tell those apart though

be patient, these things are popular. there are weekly blog posts about them, designers rave about them and even wall street journal writes about them on their weekend review advertising hem to high end clientel with interior designers recommending them

real talk almost every online consignment shop out there is run by someone who basically does just that, only a small fraction of the stuff they sell is actually submitted for consignment by real people. the vast majority of their stock they get from sample sales and brick and mortar consignment stores who vastly undervalue their product. people on the internet will always pay way more than whatever foot traffic these places get. i do it myself somewhat but it's just a thing i do on the side for beer money. picked up a pair of $300 sugar canes and $500 yohji trousers for $30 a pop today and will probably flip them both. this is coming from a mid sized Canadian city too. the mecca for this shit is Japan, rural kids go into the city for the weekend, buy up tons of shit and then years later unload it in their local consignment shop. there's online consignment stores that just tour around rural Japan and plunder the booty. there's a fucking ton of vintage UC and ura-harajuku type stuff just sitting in these sleepy little rural consignment stores waiting to be gobbled up and sold online to western tumblr fuccboi's for mucho dinero.

my best bet on the other hand is guys cheating on their girls and getting their wardrobe dumped at my local source, happens a surprising amount.
