Horizontally long face and prominet/strong facial features (big brow, prominent attractive nose, strong chin, strong jaw etc) are accentuated as is the dominance of a beard.

Personal pref really.

Yes that sticking out does happen if your hair isn't growing equally however you can just hold your bun lower for a while until slowly moving it up...

Mine is a little longer than yours in this pic, more like the original one you posted - mine also goes to my chin.
I'm growing for manbun because if it looks bad you can always cut it plus you won't be able to do it at 40 or w/e later on because you could have a job that wants short hair.
You're looking at a time frame of closer to a year for the sides but you can do a TurnLeft type knot until then but with longer sides/back than him.
Within a month mine will be too long for pomade and so my only options are to trim the top, wear a beanie or do a TL bun.

There is no intermediate for the sides when growing out for a bun. It's either occasional buzz or let it grow otherwise you won't be able to pull it into a bun.
Just did mine because then I'm not obligated into a bun or hairtie all the time, I can just as easily move my hair to one side and skrillex it.
