Been growing mine a few months, I usually just hide it under a beanie which is good because winter's coming up (aus).

Depends. Obviously, if you want shoulder length hair you will cut it there. Hair grows rather slowly, just grow it and when it starts to split or you think it looks bad, cut it.

you gotta beanie it, for multiple reasons. I have the same "problem" regarding thick hair, and theres really nothing to do about it.
When you thin it out, all youre really doing is getting it cut unevenly and at random.
The effect of thinning out very thick and somewhat long hair is gone in a week or two, and you simply cant keep thinning it out multiple times while growing out, or you will end up with all your strands at different lengths and everything will be a huge mess. For instance, imagine trying to bun it after growing out for a year, only to find out that 30% of your hair is actually too short.

No thinning, its not sustainable so get used to it and find a good conditioner to get dat light and comfy feel every now and then.

Here's the fact, you can only pull of long hair (worn down, manbun /may/ have different rules, because it looks short) if you're model-tier. And even then, you'd look better with short hair.

I don't have a good picture at hand, but I've got blond hair reaching up below my shoulders. When I had medium length hair, I used to rock a mane, which was pretty cool. Now it's a bit more tricky because of the increased length, but generally speaking I'd say going for a slighty messy, wild look works great with longer hair. Something like the pic, only less curly and slightly longer. And blond, obviously.

Depending of course on your style.

What should I do with my hair, other than just "cut it"?

top row is the nearest I can get to a manbun (I realize it's a tail and not a bun) with my length right now for reference (I have no hairbands to keep it in place yet which is why I'm holding it, and it's too short to put any higher).

Bottom row is my hair loose and natural, which is how I usually have it.
