To work etc. subtler situations
>1 on chest
>1-2 on upper wrists (just high enouh that washing hands doesn’t hit the area) depending on fragrance, for strong ones 1 spray that I then gently tap (don’t rub) on the other after spray, for regular ones individual sprays for both

Then if I’m on leisure, I usually add one more spray to chest area. This routine works for all but the weakest and strongest fragrances.

For the inbetween and rainy days: Lattafa Liam. Once again I'm a retard who never smelled Gris Charnel but if this is really close to that then I'd for sure love it too cause Liam is fantastic, that black tea and labdanum combined is just... it's so creamy and makes me feel like I'm in a cozy tea shop.

For the really cold days: Zimaya Sharaf Blend. Another one in the supposed "kinda like Angel's Share but not" list of which there are many, but it sure smells fucking good either way. Heavy boozy sweet, like a cognac but also some saffron and dates. Box is fucking huge (on the Liam too actually), very nice looking bottle.

Smelling stuff at the store and not buying is totally normal and expected. Maybe keep a note on your phone of which ones you liked so you can look them up later and see what note they have etc.

If you want to learn more about perfume generally a good place to start is reading the Luca turin guide which starts with an introduction to different facets of perfumery and has lots of reviews of classic scents so you can get an idea of what stuff might smell like.

gotcha. What should a decent bottle cost? For a beginner? Read about the differences about the dilution and Eau de Perfum should last longer (and it's generally more expensive). >I feel like I'd like all perfumes.
So do I, besides actually badly made stuff and synthetic sweetnessbombs, but through testing, you soon start to find out what you like, and what you *really* like. It’s one thing to find a perfume pleasant enough that you could enjoy smelling it on others, one thing to find them pleasant enough that you could theoretically use them but don’t find them worth the price when compared to competition, and one thing to like them enough to actually buy them.

The vast majority of stuff goes somewhere in the middle, in the ”alright” category, then there’s the stuff you really end up liking and disliking. Lots of stuff is easy to like, hate or love is rarer.

As general rule, most atomizers get around 10 sprays per 1 ml. And unless you really want to light up a room, usually 2-3 sprays of most stuff is enough, so yeah, 100ml bottles and larger are generally only worth it if you find a scent you really love and use multiple times per week (unless the price difference is so miniscule that it would be dumb to get the smaller one).

I’d also recommend smaller and cheaper fragrances to beginners just because you really don’t know what you like yet, and even if some scent seems really interesting at first, who knows whether you like it in the long run? Wouldn’t go over 100 euros per 50ml, most easy to like designer fragrances should go somewhat cheaper than that anyways. Price doesn’t have a direct 1:1 relation to quality, there are some cheap gems and many expensive failures, but realistically, if you go to store to sniff out stuff, the cheapest options are generally crap.

Common enough to be overplayed, it’s one of those fragrances that even many people who don’t give a shit about fragrances recognize. Then again, most people not into fragrance like it, and most people aren’t fragrance hobbyists, so it’s not necessarily that bad if you don’t mind up smelling like many others.

As for the scent itself, it’s a very synthetic blast of ”freshness” that is dominated by ambroxan, which probably doesn’t say much to you now, but try it and you will understand. EdT is the most metallic and aggressive, EdP adds some spices to it and then vanilla to drydown making it a bit less aggressive as whole, and Parfum and Elixir are very different from the two first mentioned.

So I was here yesterday asking about recs for my first frag, looking into CK one and Acqua di Gio, and many leaned towards the AdG EdT. So I checked them out and the AdG was a little too lemony, and I wanna say almost soapy, if that makes any sense. I think I was already subconsciously wanting the CK One so I looked into that one and noticed there were two boxes, the white one seen most everywhere and a beige box, but they said the same thing on the box as far as being eau de toilette, ingredients, oz, etc. I've been reading around and saw something about a vintage bottle, or being before reformulations. Any input? To be perfectly honest they smelled the same and I attributed that to just not being experienced enough to notice a difference, but based on what I've seen here many seem to prefer older versions of the same fragrance so I think I'm going for that but wanted to get some opinions. Everyone was super helpful in helping me decide and I just wanted that last bit of info before pulling the trigger.

CK1 is shit. ADG is the best selling fragrance of all time for a reason. ADG is the GOAT maison. Either get ADG or try a different safe fragrance like Versace Eu Fraiche, Bleu de Chanel, or YSL Y. If you want to pick up teenagers get Sauvage. Avoid EDT unless the EDT version is specifically good like Versace Eu Fraiche or Sauvage EDT. Thought many people argue that Sauvage Parfum or Elixir are much better than Sauvage EDT. (I would agree)

Don't worry about reformulations or vintage batches until you're deeper into it. The only thing I would suggest is researching a fragrance you want to make sure that the current formula isn't dogshit, like Creed Aventus or Spice Bomb.

tried versace dylan blue today
nice opening, citrus, fresh, aquatic, with a bit of muskyness. reminds me of bleu de chanel but more soapy/fresh shower smell added to it. dry down is much different. leaves you with a floral/sweet but with a bit of musk scent. very similar to a soapy smell.
despite being a 'blue' fragrance and having similarities to BdC in the opening, the drydown is very very different which will be the majority of time you spend with the frag. BdC is much more woody and warm and a bit classic masculine. Dylan Blue is very much just fresh soap smell.

Original noob asking for advice here, I thought CK one was also one of the classics, it was a big reason for considering it in the first place. I liked a bit of the AdG but couldn't avoid thinking it smelled like dish soap with too much lemon. Again, I'm most likely way off and just need more experience, and figured I'd be safe by going with the one I preferred most that didn't seem too "citrusy". especially since many here told me to go with what I liked amongst the safe bets.
>Inoffensive, hard to misuse, and easily found.
Does this not describe CK One? Honestly asking, I feel like I missed a huge part of the conversation yesterday.

>> No.18076041

>>18076039
In my experience CK1 is very femme and is arguably warm/hot weather only. Other classic daily wear options are going to be more versatile and comfortably masculine. I own and wear fragrances that some people consider to be female perfumes outright, but there are absolutely days where I just can't pick them up because I'm not feeling confident enough. I think CK1 is femme enough that you might run into that feeling. Other people may disagree though.

Absolutely go with what you prefer, it's your choice, but understand that these fragrances will transform and develop as the day goes on. Some dry into very warm and smooth states, others lose their depth and become flat. If you have two or three that you're zeroing in one try getting samples or mini-bottles so you can actually try wearing them. You could be like me when I first started and spend a couple grand and never touch half of them, that works too because at least you'll still find what you really like. You're looking at this correctly by being hesitant and doing your best to find the right choice first. Once you get a bottle or two the anxiety will be gone and you'll start blind-buying just like retards like me.

Thanks for the honesty. I could be wrong, but it almost seems like the "femme" description comes from it being considered a unisex frag, whereas others that were recommended came with the specific description of being more masculine, but then the notes described didn't really fit what I was looking for, and I definitely didn't wanna stray too much into the fringe with scents that I wouldn't even be able to appreciate. So I ended up focusing on those two because I did notice more appreciation for the AdG, and tried both on my skin and walked around for a couple hours. I gotta say, some salespeople are too pushy for comfort and I ended up with a bunch of strips of all kinds of stuff off the shelf that I didn't care for, at least not as a total beginner. At the end of the day, I decided for the CK One as a safe bet, I liked how it developed, even if it seemed mild in strength throughout the day, but that actually seemed perfect for me as a first-timer. I can see why many prefer the alternative, but it just didn't seem as pleasant and soft to me as the CK One. Now the issue I'm facing is the whole different box thing that caught me off guard and figured I had the rest settled. Turns out I still don't know anything.

Boring, it's not 2019 anymore. I've been almost exclusively wearing boswellia sacra frankincense oil from oman mixed in jojoba oil nowadays. Plebs don't understand but olibanum by itself is a complete perfume if you get high quality oil. My oil has notes of citrus, pine, camphor, "puffyness," smoke, and woodyness/pencil shavings. I've also experimented with combining 3-4 drops of either myrhh or sandalwood oil but neither mixture is as good as the frankincense by itself.

tl'dr fougeres are pleb tier compared to resins/incense

I don't think maisons will ever make a fragrance like it again, though. The suicide style "shove as many notes as you can into it" of the 80s is long gone. Got a sample of the new K EDP Intense, been trying it today.
I kinda like it actually. Opens with strong saffron and there's leather behind it, then after an hour or so you start to notice a nice fruity fig.

I've been sniffing it a bit too much perhaps cause I think my nose blindness is setting in but what I've experienced for the first 3 hours so far is pleasant.

pic related samples arriving next week, i hope that sanguinem harena is the mixature of dark amber and sweet notes that i imagine based on the notes. tobacco jam is something i have been wanting to sample for ages, especially after kerosene discontinued their raspberry. verge is a potential summer fragrance that i'm looking at, depending on it's complexity

after this i'll be buying the following:
- andrea maack's lightsource and hermann miniatures for spring and summer
- possibly sampling tilia but probably cba because yellow and white florals are disgusting
- puredistance's white: looking to get the best clean musk out there for easy wear
- jul et mad
- maybe un air d'apogee by nathalie lorson, there was something nice about the combination of hay and tobacco that i miss during springs - issara is of course the better interpretation of this, but i gave my miniature to a friend
