Waxed Flesh Edition

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

It's a mistake unless you have a huge collection and want something really avant garde.

Stick to oxfords with suits. Maybe a loafer or split toe derby but in my opinion oxfords look cool as fuck and oxfords should only be worn with a suit, so it's a missed opportunity to not wear one.

Keep your boots for more casual looks, even if it's a dressier boot like a chelsea or a chukka or a galway.

Travel boot recommendations?
I will be going on a long trek through Europe soon and want to get some boots that will help me through the journey (will alternate between them and some sneakers)
I thought about these Heritage Blundstones because they appear to be resoleable and look versatile but then again I could spend less money on some used RM Williams.

don't get brand new boots for a trip, unless you have a month or more time to break them in properly
even if it's the best fitting boot in the world right out of the box, once you start sweating in them all day the stiff leather will give you blisters no matter what, this applies to perusing through the shopping malls in paris too, doesn't have to be any intense walking
honestly stick with your old shoes
also lace-up boots are way better for all-day wear compared to chelseas and other slip-ons, since you get slight rubbing in them no matter what

Got a pair Danner Vitals for some lightweight /out/ shitkickers
Their wides fit nice, decent toe box and it doesn't feel like I'm going to blow out the sides. I'm not used to synthetics but the padding is good and they don't feel like they'll fall apart right away. Whatever they use for the toe cap structure is hard as hell, feels like a little steel toe on the end. Almost no arch support, need some insoles. 8/10 for first fit

I'm struggling to make my MTO Bonafe loafers work in terms of fit.

I got these last year but at the end of summer so I didn't really wear them.

First of all I've already ditched the lasted shoe trees, I might sand them down but they're such a tight fit it's almost unusable.
Secondly I tried an insole and that crushed my toes in terms of height, so that ain't it.
Next up I gotta try a tongue pad instead, I think that might work.

By default they're too loose, but they're not too big or too wide, I think the instep is too high and my foot slides forward which crushes my toes. So I'll try a tongue pad next.

first of all they cost just about the same as made in the US/yurop boots, but they're made by amateurs in their indonesian garage, so it's not even worth it, unless you really want a custom lace-to-toe for some reason
a lot of them have QC issues, especially the cheaper indo brands like junkard and jakkrabbits
if you get one that's defective or has QC issues, they won't make it up to you in any way and will just flat out ghost you
even if they use imported leathers for the uppers, everything else is cheap domestic crap (footbed, ect.), some of those that had theirs resoled claim to have found cheap garbage on the inside
there were instances of these brands trying to pass off domestic leathers as expensive imports and you can never be sure if what they claim is true and just have to take their word for it
the lasts are really bad

pic is junkard
note the cap toes are different size, the last is so shit that you have no space for your big toe, the celastic/toe structure material goes way past the cap toes and almost reaches the facings
it's just not worth it, dude

The redbacks have a very gummy sort of sole and quite comfortable, though I feel that mongrels (I don't have the K9) are better made.

The arch support and heel seem to have alleviated this issue, but my boots (lugged nigs in the OP) may have slightly too high a heel because the balls of my feet, really more close to my toes, feel some discomfort/fatigue sometimes from my weight shifted slightly farther forward. Have some Franks on order (seems he uses 4-thick leather heel stack compared to nigs 5) which think will work better for me. Also have some franks Rainier and def prefer the way franks builds the arch support vs nigs

Thank you for this. I would be very interested to hear on how you go with your Franks. Please, if you bother to post about it here, not that you're the guy with flat wide feet.
My feet are flat, and wide and finding comfortable shit that fits is a struggle. To find shit that looks good is just too much to hope for.
Best luck I've had is with Alden's trubalance, and I believe the thomas heel and it's pronation correction really helps, but like I said if I'm not hyper conscious of it I'll still default to a heel strike if I'm not thinking and in a hurry.

> the intense heel pain after a long day on my feet
I was surprised to find out that other people didn't suffer from this, and that it was only me because of my fucking feet. That was an eye opener.
I remember running to my exam hall, because otherwise I'd be late and locked out, in some leather soled chelseas (old aussie Baxters that aren't made anymore). The PAIN walking back was so intense I remember it to this day. Walking up the hill I turned and walked up backwards (toe first rather than heel) almost instinctively and the pain was gone. That felt better than being finished with the shitty exam.

I tried on some Whites SD once and the arch support felt weird under my foot. Hardly comfortable. Like I was stepping on vitamin bottle or something. How long did it take your feet to get used to the arch?

I don't know my brannock because I'm european. I wear 10US on Nike, Adidas, Vans and New Balance, they fit just right, no looseness in width and just about a finger's width of extra room on the toe, enough so my toes don't touch but not too much empty space on the front.
Had a pair of Iron Rangers in 9.5D, the fit more or less right but a tad too lose for how I like boots to fit (snug, but not tight, like the foot is held in place with minimal or no slipping inside the boot, but not like it's being choked). I wore a thin leather insert but still was not 100% satisfied with the fit. Ended up trading them for a 9Us and the fit perfectly, snug but not tight, just enough room in front of the toes so they dob't rub nor touch when walking.
So if you like a snug fit there's a good chance that going down a full size from your best fitting sneakers is the way to go. But I won't take responsability if you end up with a pair tgat's too small for your feet.
As a side note, I normally wear socks that aren't too thick nor too thin, something in the midfle, I'd say.
Hope this helps instead of adding extra confusion.
Another side note: Iron Rangers mold to your feet and loosen up a bit pretty fast.

Went to a rock show last year, lead guitarist had a pair of boots on with a knife in a leather holster laced to the boot. It wasn't hung like this Nicks shit. It was really noticeable because he had it laced really low on the boot, below the speed laces, presumably so he could just keep it there and not have to deal with it every time he put the boots on. Kind of a weird choice to have the knife handle pointing off to the side, maybe it was just sort of the gig outfit. Cool boots though.

Have never at all liked or bought any Doc Shittans/Soloshitters, but what's consensus opinion on other boots made by NPS?

I'm contemplating getting a pair of their NPS Heritage 6-Eye Brogue Derby Country Boot, pic rel.

Any other suggestions? Looking for boots that fit the following criteria: brown pref. grain leather, rubber soles (pref. not large lugs like commandos, hate shit getting stuck in-between), somewhat slim not chunky clown nose type shit, and pref. country boot or similarly classy but more casual/outdoorsy

Planning to wear for out and about town but not at any upscale places/international leisure travel/light hiking (< 6 hr round trip)

Would definitely need a pair by EoY for a trip to Japan in Christmas for ~2/3 weeks

Other than pic rel. from NPS, was thinking Grasmeres, maybe Stows, or a pair of Grenson Triple Welts

it's the plastic coating from the cream precipitating
red wing boot cream contains acrylics and a bunch of other synthetics and is supposed to be their version of bick4, where the goal is to keep the original color and prevent darkening as much as possible, while also adding water protection (still darkens)
any conditioner that promises that has to contain synthetics, it's just not possible otherwise and it doesn't matter what it says on the label, they are not "just natural oils and waxes"
people are always bitching and moaning at redwing that babbies first boot became darker immidiately with all their other all-natural conditioners the first week they got them, so they sell this to them

their mink oil cream is actually quite decent, if you don't slather your boot in it and use sparingly, but there is better stuff out there

Mine are comfy in the arches. Wore them dancing all night, wore them in the woods, wear them just walking around doing things. I don't know how to compare them to White's, but I think the key is to try on many pairs until one fits that's in a style you think looks good. When you pull it on it should click. There should be no play in the vamp but a slight amount in the heel. Wear proper socks. I wear medium thick wool.

NTA but engineer boots accomplish this, most PNW companies have an engineer boot and a lot of the more prestige engineer boots have a high arch like PNW boots do.

Not boots but same realm. Has anyone tried oak street camp mocs? They worth 300 bucks?

I know those are the gold standard for camp mocs but I want some kind of high quality suede shoes similar in shape to these. The oak street mocs are the closest I’ve found.
