If youre wearing it everyday its going to get dirty and damaged, you can afford a nice suit when you have a career OP.
Just get a wool-like suit form Uniqlo, they fit it for you too and make adjustments and itll only set you back about $150 CAD for the jacket and pants.

You can machine wash it and its wrinkle free, if youre wearing it everyday to an office, then its a no-brainer.
It doesnt have the heavy epulets you get on regular jackets so it feels way more comfortable and breathable during summer too.
Style it with a simple one color (Same, matching suit and slack, or contrasting, matching belt and shoes), two buttoned overcoat made from a decent wool if you want to maintain the feel of wealth and beat the spring and autumn breezes.

I would consider at least 2 suits to rotate. Traveller's suit made with breatherable wool is always an excellent choice for your first suit, solid color tweed is extremely versatile, warm, and durable. joseph abboud is highly regarded on clothing forums for their quality and value, around $300 and even out do Spier & Mackay around that price.

If I could give myself back then advice, i would recommend going to a tailor to get your measurements then hit the thrift store. Focus on fit, then material, and finally color/style. Most used suits made from 100% natural material, have the wool mark logo, or union stamps will be better than what you can find new below $300.

Get 2 very simple suits, one in navy, one in charcoal (single breasted, 2 buttons, standard pockets), a bunch of very simple shirts (white, sky blue, striped) and a pair of black oxfords. You can get those quite cheaply, check Charles Tyrwhitt's twill suits for instances.

Either way I'm actually in an office or visiting clients 5x a week as a solutions architect, you don't want a stuffy overpriced suit for a entry level engineer role.

I bought a used one on eBay (hicky freeman) and got it tailored. I think I did it all for under $300. But this was almost 10 years ago. You want. A full canvas suit if you’re looking for quality. I still wear that same suit the few times a year I need one. I mostly wear a blazer. It’s more appropriate for engineering conferences.

I think conferences unless they goto private rooms, are generally far more casual, plus youre a foreigner so they are very loose with what they expect of you.
That said if its summer, just a short sleeved white polo or regular short sleeve shirt (No tie) is more than permissable.
