the movement is assembled by robots, the hard part is assembling the parts you got without fucking up things like chapter ring and bezel alignments or leaving dust on the dial
is the case already with the crystal? if not, you'd need a press to put the crystal in, and align it properly for the cyclops to be in the right place
ideally you'd also use some lube on the crown and caseback, although maybe for the new parts they come prelubed
other than that, although never modded anything to this extent myself, I don't think there should be any other problems

going through my effay journey and i've hit the watch portion. i've never owned one before and i'm looking to get two, one for casual everyday use and another for more formal events.
for the casual one i've landed on the seiko tank SWR049. i found a few on fb marketplace for $180. my only worry is that are these fakes? how can i check if they're authentic?

for the formal one, i'm looking for suggestions. i kinda like the seiko SUR401 but if there are better options out there i would like to know about them.

any alternatives to either are needed as well. only requirements for me are that the casual one has to be a leather strap and the formal one has to be a steel strap. also would like if the casual one has a rectangular/square face, the formal one has to be circular or vice versa. budget is about $200 each. my wrist circumference is 8" so maybe 42-44mm faces if i'm following the sticky correctly

They use domed crystals. It's not entirely clear on the descriptions if that includes the crystal, but it looks notably thin in pictures. There are a few different versions of effectively the same watch with different numerals and dial colors and case diameters - there are 2 36mm black dial ones with different numerals and indexes, a 36mm cherry red looking one, this 40mm mulberry purple one that looks really nice, there's a dark blue one with red hands, there are a few 36mm and 40mm variants with all arabic numerals that are basically solid blocks of lume. They have optional butterfly clasp bracelets you can buy as an add on. They just seem like solid value.

Why do you want moonphase?

I like GMT because I often end up spending chunks of the year in a different time zone than my family for work and it's nice to have that second time zone at a glance. You can definitely do that also with a bevel dial diver too instead of a GMT, but a GMT is pretty nice for that.

I've never even heard of a combination GMT and moon phase before and it seems like it would be a very cluttered dial.

Mine is just a Casio A158. Looks like a normal casio, but it's actually got some serious blast processing inside. Opened it, took out the casio movement, installed the Sensor Watch board. It's now a programmable little computer. Has a temperature sensor and people already used that to turn it into a temperature compensated quartz watch which puts its right up there into the high end of accuracy. That's not to mention the shitloads of watch faces this thing's got. This thing can calculate the position of planets in the sky.

Nothing really makes sense about moonphase in general, it's a totally impractical complication for anybody who's not a fucking werewolf. Which is to say nobody. It only exists to flex on dress watches because it looks pretty and it's hard to make.
