I successfully negotiated a salary increase to $75k a year, to celebrate I'm going to buy a JLC Master Ultrathin (I want to express my stealth wealth aesthetic). Do you think the stainless or the gold version would look better with my one suit (Suitsupply Havana in cobalt blue). What does /wt/ think of these? I know it's a cope brand for people that want to pretend they have a Rolex, but I like the red bezel black dial combo. Also these older models have an ETA movement so they are much easier and cheaper to service than the new ones that you can only send to Tudor to service

>> No.18000450

Probably not as helpful as it could be but I borrowed the latest METAS jubilee version for a week.
+ Proportions are a lot better than the old version but still fairly bulky
+ 5 link (jubilee) is really really nice and the clasp is as good as Rolex (you can buy it or just a regular bracelet with the new clasp for ~700IIRC).
- It's a bit too big for smaller wrists, you gotta hit 7.0
- The bezel action is nice but the knurling is quite hard to grip
+ The red looks so good in person and people will notice it and ask about it, no one has ever commented on anything I've worn but this. But yes you will have to tell them no it's not a Rolex.

To sum up don't buy it if you're a wristlet or if you genuinely dream of getting a Rolex one day it just won't quite scratch that itch.

honestly the sub is so played out at this point that if given the option between spending nine grand on a sub and half as much on a black bay the choice is easy for me. the black bay straight up looks better, is the same quality, and is nowhere near as expensive.

the same cant be said for the rest of tudor's lineup in my opinion but they absolutely nailed the black bay

It's hard to explain even to a smart man because not many really know how or why it is supposed to work. I could pretend i know what i'm talking about but i'll admit i really don't. Here's my basic (and probably wrong) take on it.

The fork drives the escapement with a little pulse when it unlocks. But only one way. Twin pulse adds another pulse so the energy needed to drive the escapement is more evenly distributed and the losses to drive the whole thing are smaller and the watch can have a bigger power reserve despite beating very fast.
At least that's what they say.

Bullshit. Unfortunately for those who think like that, the BB is a unique watch and has almost nothing to do with the Submariner. Different tones, different case, different weight, different feeling. It's not that difficult to understand once you do a little reading. Tudor was founded by the same guy who founded Rolex, Hans Wilsdorf, as a way to sell watches to working-class people without diluting the quality or prestige of Rolex.

His options were to either make cheaper, shittier watches and call them Rolex (which would piss off existing watch customers and give future potential customers the idea that Rolexes are cheap shit) or make cheaper, shittier watches under a different brand and tell customers that it's the same company so you're getting 90% of the quality at a reduced price.

Not that anon, but to be fair the change in what Tudor is was relatively recent. And there are still some watches that aren't phased out that remain the same as old Tudor. You're a retard. That's your own interpretation and not even remotely based on words or sources that one would want to consider. Tudor WAS more accessible, but working class people had infinite more options to choose from (I'm not going to list the three hundred Swiss brands and microbrands that were rich and popular back then) and they did in fact choose their watches from other companies. Tudor was an experiment to sell more, not a conspiracy to fool buyers on the quality, as you literally claimed like a fucking retard. And yet even, Tudor is today almost the same quality as Rolex, and even if you were to dislike their movements, you are still literally incapacitated from an objective point of view to shit on the style and design of their watches, which have become completely unique and independent from Rolex. The BB is unlike anything Rolex has ever made, or even unlike anything ever made tout-court. Wash you face, asshole.
