Watches are luxuries. There is no watch journey, there is no progression you have to go through. You don't have to buy a bunch of shitty Seikos before you're allowed to buy an Omega, then a Rolex, then a Patek, etc.

Pick the watch you really want and start saving for it. If you have to save for something else as well, like a car or a house, then you should not be saving for a luxury watch yet.

It's fine. It's meant to be a one-watch collection. Dressy but not so dressy you can't wear it with a t-shirt. Sporty but not so sporty you can't wear it with a suit. Reasonably sized, good water resistance, good power reserve.

The 41mm version has a neat movement that has a jumping hour, making it a pretty handy travel watch too.

They can be had for pretty reasonable prices on the second hand market as well.

Not HAQ, but it does have a proper, serviceable movement, based on a mechanical one, with a metal mainplate. Mine is running about 15s slow a month, but it does have a screw you can turn to adjust it, i just don't have a screwdriver that's thin enough to do it myself so i'll have to take it to a watchmaker to do it for me. The case is good as well, the whole watch feels solid and way more expensive than i paid for it, they usually go for around 200.

Yes it does. Service is more than more than just cleaning the movement. The gaskets also need to be checked and replaced to ensure water resistance.

However, those old quartz movements were made before people developed ways to make them extremely cheap. They are designed similarly to mechanical movements. They can (and should) be serviced and regulated.

No suggestions of a watch, but what I would suggest is to alter your strategy. You said you have a 'grail' that you are working up to, so that assumes you have one in mind already. Wisest move with the least waste is to simply save for the grail and get it as soon as you can. Every watch you get before your grail pushes your grail further down the road. One thing to consider if you haven't already is servicing costs; I don't know if you've serviced any of your watches yet, but once you get into life-time ownership, then you do have to service them at least every 10 years or sooner so they keep running well, so factor that into the cost as well. That's why I'd stress on simply saving for your grail and getting it sooner; then you can enjoy it longer, and focus only on servicing that one piece.

Thrift stores, in this day and age, likely won't have Omegas for any sort of deal, but it all depends on where the store is located and how good their internet access is. Just remember that a watch is only as good as the condition of its movement, so even if it seems like a deal, you might have to take it to a watchmaker to service the movement before it runs well. The added cost is something you need to factor in. Sometimes replacement parts to an old movement are no longer manufactured or available, and this makes an old watch even more problematic.

It has a more traditional dial, but without the fully polished round case that most watches with traditional dials have.
I really liked pic related as well, especially the dial color/texture and the hands.
But the case is simply too small and dainty for my frame.

I got mine used too and the dude put an aftermarket bracelet on it, it fits okay but needs thinner springs because they have to bend a tiny bit. Maybe there’s a better one. That's all noise from AI and high ISO. Phones take great photos by analyzing the scene and then using the ideal setting to reduce motion and use computational photography to make it "pretty". It works for making hags look pretty on instagram but it comes at the cost of detail and resolution. All you have to do is use more light, ancor the phone, and turn of all the post processing. That will allow you to reach get the most out of the tiny sensor that phones use which is still BTFO by anything with a larger sensor.

The blur from shaking your hands gets compensated automatically by higher ISO and AI which are the enemy of resolution. Every camera has a minimum focus distance that is usally listed. it might be a bit harder to find for phones but it should be out there. Some phones have macro lenses but unless they use the main camera you have to really do some careful comparisons to see if the zoom is worth giving up the better sensor.
