Major avatarfags
=================================

>Poortadello / Omega Drunk
Multi-reply specialist. Canadian. Gay. Only posts about his own watches. Very repetitive posts. Does not take new pictures of watches. Has several obscure Omegas only he cares about. Notorious for samefagging.

>Whoretadello / Degenerate Anon
Greek living in Germany. Cleans cars for a living. Has a Tudor, Homos and some Seikos. Life currently falling apart. Responds by getting more material things and falling in love with strippers. Precious metals investor.

>Citizen drunk
Finnish. Alcoholic. Only owns one watch but posts a lot, mostly about alcohol or coins. Possibly immortal. Tragic case of gyno.

Semi-regular posters / minor avatarfags / possibly gone.
=================================

>Mortadello / Lawyersama
Very positive and friendly but doesn't post anything of any consequence. Lawyer by trade. Obese. Posts terrible photos of amazing watches. Does not take criticism well.

>Hamilton Drunk
Posts a single picture per thread before getting drunk and passing out. Owns a Hamilton. Works in television and film.

>Vintage chrono anon
Owns several vintage chronographs of various makes and is knowledgeable

>Nobully anon
Has rich parents who have bought him/her (poster is trans) several Vacheron Constantins and a GS.

>Cockwatch
Has one F-91W, has posted it on his cock. Mostly posts the Casio with knives or snacks. Russian living in Latvia with his mommy.

>Reverso anon / Reversocel
Has Blancpain 50 fathoms, a Rolex, Reverso. Dislikes avatarfagging. Major penfag.

>Tank autist
Is compliling a very autistic list of tank style watches. Owns no watches.

>Two of Each anon
Autist of the highest order. Compelled to buy two of any watch he owns. Cannot explain why

>ALS anon
Has an 1815 Up/Down. Mostly stays under the radar but occasionally pops his head up to flex.

>Submissive brah / Subbrah
Owns a Sub, is a sub.

>Listposter anon
He will post the list or he will be unhappy

Well, here's how I see it. Do you wear it a lot? Do you yearn for it when you're not wearing it? Could it go up in value in a decade or two? It's a tough one. If the watch makes your heart sing, keep it....but if it's not affecting you emotionally, maybe selling it to someone who is passionate about it might be better; then everyone is happy. I don't know the prices on these though, so I have no idea if 25k is 'good/bad'. I'd almost think of consulting an expert in the market and see what they say (I'm thinking Davidoff Bros or people like that, though I don't know who is an expert in Cosmics).

That's the thing, m8. I wear it almost never. Firstly because of its age, and lastly because, since I got it with a really small bracelet, it hurts a bit, if I wear it for several hours.

However, as >>17909800 pointed out, I don't need to sell it. (In fact, I tend to not sell watches, only gift them) and I guess, I really, really like the idea of having a maybe unique dial in my hands. Same goes to the extremely rare GP Motorola "chip" dial, although they made a few of those.

I also felt like the person offering was trying to lowball the price, although I got it cheaper than that, but that was before the current watch boom.

Yeah, I'm gonna keep it.

Best redpill I can construct:

Upsides:
>Get more bang for buck in terms of complications and companies.
>Independents can service easily. If they need parts, they can source or fabricate.

Downsides:
>wear with appropriate clothing
>as convenient/inconvenient as pulling out a phone to tell the time
>much easier to damage, and usually no water-proofness of ANY kind.

I could go on and on about each point, but to address your questions dead on:

>easily serviced?
Depends on the pocket watch. Usually 'yes'.

>sourcing replacement parts?
Depends on the watch. Popular ones by Hamilton, Elgin, Waltham, Ball, Omega, Longines, etc. have tonnes of parts, but obscure makers are more difficult.

Something cheap? I'd recommend starting with a Hamilton 992b. They are railroad grade, capable of being within +/- 15 seconds per WEEK, if fully serviced. They're respectable, and if you don't like it, you can always resell it for about as much as you paid for on the secondary market right now.

If you like what you see, then you can go with complications or higher companies. Pateks become affordable, as does Rolex, VC, etc. Also, complications like minute repeaters are no longer only +50k.

Does any of that help?

Not a doubt, really, just that I have never saw other one. As far as I know, the watch with that dial arrived to the og store in Mexico in 1968 (the year of the mexican olympics) with a buch of other watches from the Omega factory. There's even an old inventory book with a sheet that says "numeros raros" odd numerals when they listed the entire shipment. I believe maybe it was sent by mistake as it wasn't intended lo leave the factory.

1. be careful

2. accept that nicks are part of ownership and nothing is permanent. consider the case of blue jeans: they will only ever have that perfect fade and wear for an instant, because every time you wear them, they wear out a little more. when your old and you pass your watch onto your son or daughter, they won't care that it's not in as-new condition, it will be "dad's watch", a unique one-of-one piece. if you don't have any children to pass a legacy onto, then you don't need to worry what happens to your watch when you're gone.

If you buy a watch and enjoy it for what it is without buying it as a cope watch you will be really happy. But if you do buy a watch as a cope you will hate it the moment you put it on your wrist. It applies to like 90% of people I would say.

Of course, I do know a watch is crafted. A ton of time is put into R&D, case shape, case design, movement design, materials chosen, dial design and manufacturing all of that into a finished watch. I could lecture your ignorant ass about how a watch is made, but that'd be a waste of time.

History continues to this day, Citizen making the 0100 the most accurate quartz movement to exist right now didn't have to go so hard, but they did.

There are still companies passing down the art of manufacturing quality mechanical and automatic movements.

Digital watches are also based.

Phones are cool, but people get addicted to them way too quickly.
My phone can run out of battery while my solar G-Shock will work until the rechargeable cell dies, or I shoot the watch with a .50 BMG.
An automatic watch keeps powered by you literally wearing it all day and actually doing something, while a mechanical movement, usually hand wound, only requires you to turn the crown a few times, and they have a power reserve big enough to ensure the watch doesn't stop even after you take it off.

If watches had 0 utility they would have already died, but oops the watchmaking industry is still going strong.
If your only defense against shitty bracelets some chinese child made in a sweatshop for $0.04 is "tHeY A rE BvioouSly aRtIstiC aND vAiN" that tells me you literally never had the joy of owning and enjoying a watch.

NATO straps are supposed to be fabric. They look weird and bulky when they're made of leather.

It would look great on a regular NATO or a regular leather strap, particularly on a nicely broken-in shell cordovan strap.

The hour hand only goes around the dial once every 24 hours. (The hour hand moves half as fast.)
The bezel rotates (the crown at 4 is a bezel lock) so allows the wearer can track a second timezone.

This design predates the Rolex GMT-Master. By the way, the first GMT-Master didn't have an independently-adjustable hour hand. The GMT was permanently locked to the hour hand, so it could only track two timezones as well

Rolex's design was a little more useful for the average user (even if actual pilots liked the Glycine more.)

Now that Whoretadello has a new watch, should we revisit the rankings?

Ranking known collections:

1. Mortadello
This isn't up for debate, is it?

2. Nobully anon
Extremely tasteful watches, regardless of who paid for them.

3. Reverso anon
Tight collection with no weak points. Only four pieces, though.

4. Up/Down anon
His ALS is supreme but the rest of the collection is not as impressive. A close call between him and Reverso anon.

5. Poortadello
The Citizen 0100 and Maddox Grail don't outweigh the fact that the rest is just a bunch of boring Omegas.

6. Vintage Chrono Anon
The vintage Heuers make it a close call between him and Poortadello. The extent of his collection isn't known so he ranks below Poortadello for now.

??. Whoretadello

Vintage chrono anon's watches are great, but he hasn't posted in a while, so I don't think he should be on this list anymore.

Whoretadello new watch is really nice, but if we're ranking collections, he has one really nice watch, two okay watches, and then whatever.

Now, more interesting would be if you put up the best watch from each collection.
Mortadello's Journe vs Nobully's VC Chrono vs. Reverso Anon's Fifty Fathoms, etc.
In that case, I think Whoretadello and Omega Drunk would climb because their best pieces are good, while Reverso Anon would fall because all his pieces are more or less on the same level.

I'll clarify that because >>17910361 is only half-right.

The original bracelet is unusable (stretched and fragile), so the question became what to do: I could keep it on leather forever, but I prefer bracelets. I love the flatlink design, as I think it is ideal for the head of the watch, but the quality wasn't out there. So, I ended up getting the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Flatlink bracelet that normally comes on the 50th anniversary Speedy; you can buy the bracelet as a separate component from Omega directly. The only problem is that the endlinks for that one only fit the new midcase (which has an extra step or a different size step). That meant I had a bracelet but no endlinks to fit it on. Luckily, another fellow on either WUS or OmegaForums (can't remember which) had already done a conversion, and they used Uncle Seiko endlinks for the US flatlink and the Omega 50th Annivesary bracelet for their 1861. So, that's what I did. The endlinks are from Uncle Seiko, and the bracelet/clasp is OEM.

I went this route because my 321 is a keeper 4life, so I wanted a bracelet to match. If you don't want to go that route due to cost, consider Forstner Flatlink bracelets or Uncle Seiko. Either one will do, and they have options like fully brushed, or some polished sections, etc.

Your electric blue quartz Seamaster looks awesome, btw; I trust it's keeping great time! Does that help?

Any alternatives at that price range (under $500)? Sadly has to be that size or smaller.

To me having to source the parts by yourself is a given on any vintage watch and should be taken into account. If you have so much money that you're willing to send the watch back to Japan to an official service then you also have enough money to buy another one that's in bad condition but has the parts needed and give the parts to an able watchmaker of your choosing. When i bought my first vintage Seiko my first thought was that i have to find another one so i can use it for parts.
