Tell me the truth /wt/, is there a good reason to get this over something like a modern Explorer II which can now be had a grand below MSRP? Still at $9k I can just wait 4 months on a GMT, or 12 months for a Batman which is only a grand more. The only people who buys this Rolex are people who truly love the Explorer II because it's one of the few that loses its value.

Let's see here:
Citizen has the Eco-Drive Caliber 0100. Literally the most accurate quartz movement at +- 1 second annual that also is solar-powered.

Next up is Eco-Drive Calibre A060 that is +- 5 seconds annualy.

Regular Eco-Drive watches are factory rated for +- 15 seconds a month.

They are excellent at time keeping as well, what are you talking about?

Here's the secret, buddy.

Visit Japan, have fun, go to Nakano, buy a bunch of Rolex or Omega, bam, done.

That said, I don't know how long this will stay a lifehack since do note, besides Japanese consumer culture (wherein they're not as speculative as Westerners are), what's enforcing this behavior is Japan's prior state of being locked in deflation. They're currently going through inflation past the point they can handle and that could possibly mean an end to affordable luxury pre-owned watches.

I posted this a few days ago.

- Sold all my shitters off. Currently at zero watches.
- Never want to own more than two ever again.
- Current plan is to buy picrel.
- No real plans to upgrade, but I can if I want to.

I tried a 5-digit Rolex Submariner and it was OK. It didn't knock my socks off. I liked the 5-digit GMT Master II better, but not 10k+

Does anyone else have any suggestions as to what I could replace either or both of these with?

In the end anon, I would suggest getting the watches you want.

If you are for example buying the Tudor as a cope for a Rolex you will despise that watch. If you want it for being a Tudor you are safe.

Remember that you are going to wear them not anyone else.

A good bet is looking at Chrono24 and checking out what based Japanese are selling. They sometimes sell near mint watches for lower than you would think the market price is, and japs are based as far as taking care of the things they own.

I was given a Cartier watch with the intention of selling it that I see going for around $5,000 online. I'm broke as fuck and in a major city in the US. What's the best way to sell a watch of this tier to get the most money in terms of the sale itself and avoiding taxes? Is it better to try local luxury watch/jewelry stores? There's even a Cartier near me. Or is it better to try to sell it online? It's also missing any documents or packaging, so is it worth it to try to get a certificate of authenticity?

No, really. You either go full silver or full gold/gold plated. Scratches look uglier in two tone watches, especially if its a scratch that starts from one color all the way to the other, and they're harder to maintain or restore since if it's gold plated, the polish like Cape Cod will remove the gold color.

They're horrible to look at and involve a lot of work maintain, unless its your designated beater.

Scratches on 316L Steel can be buffed out with Cape Cod, while scratches on gold or gold plated cases look better as it ages, two-tone just doesn't have the benefit of both.

Well, if you like them, they're still available. It's an Omega Seamaster 2531.80, and the early models had tritium until the changeover around 1996 or so to superluminova. It was my daily for years, but I eventually sold it. It uses an Omega-modified 2892-A; mine was superbly accurate, but had one drawback: it wasn't the most efficient winding watch. If you spend a day at the desk, it won't wind, but if you walk a lot, you're fine. They're now considered a classic design, and will likely always be desirable.

Most of my Omegas come from prior to the Chinese connection; that's one of the reasons I prefer vintage. But there's nothing actually wrong with Chinese parts; as long as they are made well and function correctly. It's their quality control that usually suffers though if you buy an actual Chinese watch (i.e. my poor Seagull 1963 was rather dusty when I got it).

>>17886309
Well, the difference though is that with a company like Rolex, they make it more difficult to change to different bracelets, and changing out to straps tend to make the watches look awful proportionally due to the placement of the holes. It's sad...but understandable. They want their watches to always look as they did when sold.

Instead, you're just a lonely incel. You'll get "love" here, sure, but even here we know you're just a pathetic waste of life.

Probably. While I think my best post was about setting watches based on movement and minute-hand-play, I don't believe I had much else to contribute. Hence why there's no need to post any more. The good news though is that I had enough correspondence with people there to know that I was able to help a few. That makes it all worth while, right?

It's a game they have played with me for a time. In all seriousness though; if my sincere interactions with them help them to feel like they are actually being listened to and respected for their thought, then it's not a loss. Some people just need to talk, or someone to listen.

I am happy, but it would be difficult to recognize if one has been so dispirited with life or if life has dealt shit sandwiches for years on end. I can't blame someone for not being happy today; there are many reasons why it's easy to feel despair. When was the last time you met someone, aside from myself, who was happy? It's a rather rare thing to encounter...

Do you fear this Anon? You've assumed these traits about me more than once, but every time it seems to be more...urgent. Are you worried about being childless? Or is it more the loneliness that you are unable to manage? Are you lonely now? It is a Sunday, after all...you could be out with Frens before the week begins again for most people. Or is it worse? >>17886421
I am sorry, Anon. On the one hand, you have survived a cancer that might have taken your life if left unchecked, and on the other it has deprived you of a choice for the future. It's not easy having choices taken away from you, nor is it fair. That's the worst part, actually: that we live in a society where 'fairness' is encouraged, and yet it may not bear out in the gamble of life.

There are always positives, but you may have to dig deep to find them. You have time on your side (i.e. you're young), and time is the thing that no one can ever get back or manufacture. If you are of sound mind and body, you have the time to accomplish things in life that can help you to leave a legacy behind. Biological legacy is not the only one that matters, nor is it the only one that makes a difference. But it will require you to determine it for yourself, since you know your situation best. You know your strengths, and you can work to shore up any weaknesses that may be there too. You have the power to do all of that, but it is definitely not easy, nor is it a guarantee of anything. Too many in life work hard and have 'nothing to show for it'. We work hard to have the chance to be remarkable. That's all it is...a chance. Does that make any sense? There is so much in life that can give someone meaning, but it might require redirecting the expectation.

Well, you're in a good place; you're working hard at what you do, and as you say you've had a great year and a half. Consider that we live in a world where dating is on the one hand 'easier' (far more fish in the sea due to online dating) and as a result far 'harder' (hypergamy gone wild). You're not old, which is great, and there are many women who might be looking for a guy who is 'settled' in terms of job. Sure, you still have to play the role (i.e. provider, stabaliser, etc.), but it is appealing to many more women than you might expect. If you're not already doing so, start working out. You don't have to go full otter mode, just enough that you are able to show off your power. Then, and this is awful to say but true, you have to be proactive and immune to failure. It seems to be a biological reality that men will always have to make the first move, and the fantasy that a women will suddenly notice a man and ask him out remains just a fantasy. There are places to meet women irl, still, but it all depends on the culture you live in, the societal expectations, etc. Don't lose hope, even if you get rejected. Quite honestly, the ones who end up with women are the ones who 'get up and try again'.

My life is not meaningless Anon; you've claimed it, many times, but I'm afraid it's simply not true. But something that is important to consider: 'meaning' in life is not the be-all, end-all of achieving happiness. It's just another component, and with others in place, it can make life happy. I've been very lucky that my presence in life helps others. That is not my purpose (or maybe it is, that's not for me to determine), but it is a component that seems to make a difference in a positive way to others. I don't need /wt/ to remember me; I do not ask for anything in return. That's the key, btw, to living a good life; give without expecting return. I know that /wt/ doesn't hate me...after all, someone used my Citizen as the OP pic for this thread...with a modification to the gentleman standing in the reflection, of course.

I'm glad you donated to your alma mater's library; that's a seriously useful and wonderful gift, which should benefit millions in the generations to come. Without 'sounding like an asshole', at least 3 of my books should reside therein.

For curious anons, it's a Day Date 18078 with the yellow gold "bark" finish
The Japanese PD was cool enough to include the official box and paperwork too compared to some of the other Chrono24 offers, and for (slightly) cheaper too

I guess the lesson from that experience is if some autist buys a replica Tudor Black Bay, don't make fun of him.

I know but I am back in education to get exactly just that you are talking about and I can't work extra for money
living as a student and living on even less money than student gets is killing me, legit I am dying in real time and I have absolutely no expenditures either
I am legit stretched to my limit (pause no homo)

Wow, we basically have the same two watches: Seiko Sarb017 the "original" Alpinist and the Sinn 856 UTC. I went on to buy a Sinn Euro Flieger III. But the original 356 looks nice.

Bros I'm waffling. Do I NEED a gmt watch? Maybe once a week I actually use it to track when setting calls and set up my calendar with utc anyway.

So I could get the new alpinist gmt in green from Japan for like 1k or the regular for 725 now

I had a chuckle when they mentioned not buying German brands because they are WW2 associated and forgot about people who buy them BECAUSE they ARE.

What makes them expensive? Surely the materials or the "craftsmanship" can't make it 10 thousand dollars more, can they? Is it just a scam?
