weird complaint but I can tell you exactly why people developed negative attitudes about orient:

1. the downmarket marketing, specifically the "MSRP $4900 special just for you price $199 ORDER NOW!!" which makes the whole brand seem skeezy and aimed at poor losers

2. too many open heart watches (also a design feature aimed at poor losers)

that's pretty much it, most of their stuff is fugly too so that doesn't help but that's pretty subjective whereas the first two are objectively a problem

The khaki king and pilot daydate dials are both badly balanced to compensate for the day windows, but in different ways. The pilot is crowded up everywhere except the top with the flieger B dial numerals and at the top the day window is alone in a sterile field. The khaki king is almost the opposite, where the top is so crowded the daydate window literally cuts the numerals off, but around the middle looks a little empty and out of place. The bottom would have a bunch of empty space too if they didn't take it up with the name of the watch. Of the two I prefer the king because it's a more wearable size and much less loud looking.

I think I slightly prefer the jazzmaster daydate to both of them, but it suffers most of all from enormous empty real estate on the dial. It's a big flat 40mm watch with nothing in it but the day and date windows. Like I said, if it was smaller it would look less sterile.

It’s been about weeks since my Seiko GMT came in so I’ll post some thoughts on it. Also full disclosure I bought it on sale for $230 so make of that what you will.

Style and wear wise it’s basically a SKX. It’s a little thicker and heavier, but it wears basically the same. Although the weight does make it feel a bit like a wrecking ball if the bracket is too loose. Style wise it’s again the same with the biggest departures being the cyclops complication, 24 hour bezel, and different color choices. I know a lot of people don’t like a cyclops complication, but I think it’s a fun change to be honest. The dual color 24 hour bezel is a nice touch and it has a neat effect where it really pops when it catches the light.

The movement is everything you can expect from a sub $500 Seiko. It runs just fine, and it’s a GMT. Don’t know how much more you can ask for at that price.

Biggest nitpicks are the crystal being hardlex and the bracelet still feeling a bit on the cheap side. But they’re really not make or break issues for me.

Overall it just feels like a SKX updated to be a GMT. I’ve read at $475 it’s a great buy- being that there aren’t any other sub $500 GMTs- but unless you really want a GMT I think there are better sub $500 options. But if you can get it on sale for under $400 I think it’s a lot more competitive, and at under $300 it feels like a steal.

Vacheron Constantin seems to have dropped off this list due to its inability to hold its value and loss of demand. I'm disappointed that it has been replaced by TikTok tier RM and not A. Lange & Sohne.

Poorfag trinity:
Rolex

Omega

Peasant trinity:

I'm currently watch-free since I've recently liquidated my collection. It was mostly Seikos and Casios of various stripes. Nothing worth mentioning or keeping.

I've decided that I want to limit myself to two pieces and leave it at that.

I've been thinking about picking up the following:
Dress watch: Cartier Santos-Dumont
Sports watch: Tudor Black Bay 54

This still leaves me some room to upgrade each of them in the future.

Any thoughts?

>> No.17881261

>>17881256
That's a solid 2-watch collection since both pieces are versatile and one can easily be worn full time when the other goes in for a service. I would just replace the Tudor with a proper no-date Sub down the line, or go straight for the Sub now and get the Cartier later.

I don't know what your budget is or your wrist size. (I'm assuming wristlet since you picked the BB54)

I'm not actually a fan of the current Subs. They are way too big for me. If anything, I'd get an Explorer 36 from the current lineup, but I don't really love that one. I like the Tudor a lot, actually. That's the one that would be harder to upgrade. I'll see what the watchmakers come out with in the future.

I mean, if I had unlimited money, I'd probably get the Santos-Dumont in solid gold and that Bathyscaphe that one of the anons here has.

They're not great. They're about 90s-era Omega in terms of quality, They don't get the same level of finishing as the case. It's the clasps that are bad, though. No microadjustment at all. Not even little holes to adjust with a tool. If your wrist swells in summer, your only hope is to add another link and pray that it's not too loose.

I remember I had an idea about being a wagie in a watch store since all that online reading about watches atleast would serve me and I could also increase my sales skills along with looking at watches and various social classes of people. I literally don't wear a watch
I never did this however
might be fun idk

TBQH I honestly do not feel the difference between the older cases and the maxi cases. The only ones where I do feel a difference is the DJ old school 36mm and DJII/41. The older DJ just feels too small now.

Last Omega boutique I went to is attached to a Swatch boutique. The same minimum wage staff works in both. Why would Omega do this to themselves. A lot of historical models that people should be lapping up should be sold out but they have tons of stock on Speedys and James Bond edition Seamasters.

I kinda want to get a Speedy 57 though, I think they look good.

Sure you can.
Hublot is a funny brand in that it actually has a lot less social media presence than you'd think. Online all you ever see for them is hate, yet they sell very, very well.
Lots of Hublot owners don't post them online (or post any watches online). Rappers will, of course. If you go to, say, Monaco or the Portofino, you see them everywhere.
