I'm torn because on one hand, MeToo was a bunch of bullshit all around, and seems to be what took AA down with it's owner and main photographer.

On the other hand, "wow look, a girl's butthole" is typical Jewish edginess that's just not interesting outside of it causing feminists to seethe. If they didn't get MeToo'd they probably would have had trannies with dicks out to sell T-shirts.

As a company though, I did genuinely like AA. Decent fabrics. Made in America (though with illegals working lol). And for all the feminist whining, they didn't airbrush shit.

I got this AA 50/50 shirt with a bigass brand name on the front given to me from somebodies company. I REALLY like the shirt. I guess the style is called a ringer shirt? It fits great though. Tried to find the same one on amazon without the branding, ofc, and I was unable to, didn't fit the same at all, and felt kinda different. Anybody know wtc?

that's not an original American Apparel t-shirt (made in Honduras), but was made after they went bankrupt and sold IP to Gildan. the original AA 50/50 shirt was one of the first mass-market blend tees to work really well with screenprinting and was really popular for print-on-demand style stuff and band tees.

anyway, I think it probably took Gildan some time to find the right manufacturers to keep making that t-shirt and I wouldn't be surprised if the quality really varied.

At the time I found AA's whole aesthetic a bit over the top if a clever way of selling basics. The late 90's and pre economy crash were peak sleazy, I guess riding on the wave of Y2K optimism and a reaction against depressing mid-90's nihilism. For me the turning point was Christina Aguilera's "Dirty" video, she went for wholesome ex-Disney channel teen to caked up whore in a single.
The hypersexualization and hedonism of the party lifestyle perhaps went a bit to far, what with Paris Hilton's sex tape and Lindsay Lohan almost causing a coke shortage in LA, but at least it wasn't meant to be taken seriously, unlike current times in which most guys are either simps or cucks and girls complain about being sexualized while offering discounts on their onlyfans.

They were the IT brand from like 2005 on for the whole alt movement, and just when they were reaching mainstream oversaturation they suddenly go out of business? They should have been absolutely raking in cash. It could not have been market forces, had to have been either corruption at the top or gross mismanagement.

We should have had to endure years of backlash as they became a pathetic mallcore brand like champion or russell athletic.

Bad publicity, management (company hadn't made a profit in years), and reputation stemming from a lot of sexual harassments cases. Dudes that worked there quite literally, and ironically, couldn't keep their dicks in their pants. They basically expanded too fast and drank their own koolaid (in reference to the sexually charged advertisement) they'd have been better off as a down sized luxury brand, and making sure they aren't running the company on credit and goodwill. Imo the brand could make a comeback but Gildan would have to sell because they're not going to want to touch those raunchy ads with a ten foot poll. I would actually love to see someone like Tom Ford take a try at leading the company/brand.

LA apparel is solid quality. It's run by the same guy, it's made in the same factory that AA used to occupy they source the same fabric from the same suppliers. Their versions of the classic AA stuff are the same as the old AA stuff was. Their new stuff is quite nice as well.
