Left hand Seamaster is one to avoid for those curious. It looks great but it was the first time they used Cuck Axial and they fucked it up royally. Only the "D" iteration of the movement was solid where they lowered the beat rate. And finding one is pure chance if it doesn't have papers and even with papers there was overlap so you could end up with the shitter movement.

Stick to the classic Omega 1120 for the wave dial Semenman. It's a gorgeous in-house movement pre cuck axial.

Careful with IWCs ever increasing case sizes and fucked up date window placement. It might drive you nuts if you care about attention to detail. Open up the 18 and look how the date is misaligned with the arabics surrounding it.

The 20 fixed that a little bit but it's still too far into the dial. IMO the XV and XVI are the last truly beautiful, symmetric and balanced Fliegers. I own the XVI of course so I'm biased. Having had several ETA2892 watches including Omega, I can say that IWC is the master of watchmaking below the holy trinity. What they do to their movements regarding precision and optimization, is unheard of. The fucker will not need servicing ever. It just keeps running.

The XII is amazing of course with the JLC but it's very expensive and rather small for a Flieger, so I avoided it.

Endless variations. Great module and good price.

Great module but it doesn't have a standard model so you have to pick your favorite special edition with most of them being negative display.
>DW-5000 (DW-5035, DW-5040 etc.)
Basic module in a steel case, used for anniversary models.
>GMW-B5000
STN display but heavy steel.

adds titanium and sapphire

Do these really live up to spec though?
The cal. A060 isn't as accurate as it seems on paper apparently. Meant to be 5spy diff, most that measure are getting 7-8. And this is whilst wearing the watch for the mandated 8hrs per day as stipulated in the manual. GS 9F seem to keep more consistent time regardless of whether or not it's worn.

This seems to be the low down on jap HAQ from what I've been reading:
>Citizen 'The Citizen' Chronomasters are more accurate on paper than Grand Seiko quartz, but results are not guaranteed
>GS is 10spy, which seems to be conservative: some that measure report 2/3spy
>Citizen's modules can never be regulated cept by Citizen, so if your watch is off-spec you can't do shit and have to send it in; they may do nothing ("it's in spec!")
>GS can be self-regulated, if you're game and actually know how
>means that in the far future, if you still give a shit/are still around, the GS quartz is more serviceable
>Citizens will be assigned to the scrap heap in 30 years unless citizen will still repair them at that time
This is some forward thinking shit here so it's not a realistic daily concern for most desu, but it's nice to know that the seikos will likely survive like the old Grand Quartz/King Quartz/Twin Quartz models of the 70's that are still ticking today and can be regulated to compensate for crystal drift; citizen's microchip driven eco-drives can't. If you're spending thousands, 7k+ for the ca.0100, then this may perhaps be of more concern for you.

>> No.17816328

>>17816324
cont'd
Contrariwise the Citizens offer more than Seiko's HAQ with a solar battery that you likely will never have to bother with for the lifetime of the watch (at least 25years if you keep it in the light).
Perpetual calendar. A date change that's on the second at midnight compared with Seiko's relatively sluggish mechanical date mechanism.
And the seconds hand on Citizens actually hit the mark. If buying GS quartz, better to buy in person so you can see whether you're lucky and your watch's seconds hand actually hits the marks.
Seiko's more traditional, clunkier mechanical based quartz may not have all the bells and whistles compared with Citizen's top of the line microchip magic, but they'll be around for the long haul to whatever end.
Finishing seems to be a wash between them.

That's the stupid way of buying watches. Buy a watch because you like it first and foremost, not to fill some imaginary gap in an ever changing imaginary collection.
Put this money aside and look for a watch that is twice as expensive but you really like in the meantime.

It's advisable to keep things the way they are if everything's "stable" ie not on the verge of crumbling away for whatever reason because finding someone that can do justice to a watch like this is most of the time impossible and you'll most often get some tard that'll butcher the job and leave things ruined.
A watch this old should show its age; getting some monkey to try to repaint a dial or whatever isn't anything I'd trust to just anyone.
So generally, NO. Just get the movement serviced, springs replaced if need be etc.

If this watch is of true sentimental value, send it to a proper vintage Hamilton specialist and not just your local mall watchmaker or whoever. They'll have all the right parts, maybe even a spare crystal that'll fit this exact model to replace that chipped one.
At least this way you can be satisfied that you did the best you could to get this thing working in proper condition.

I say this respectfully: You have two nice watches there that fit 98% of all your needs. Stick with those for the next 15 years. Save your money, buy a house/condo, and then buy whatever your true grail watch it.

The list you've assembled is, respectfully, a bunch of low/mid tier watches. I did the same. I spent 10+ years buying/selling/flipping mid-tier watches, microbrands, etc.

Now I own a rolex, a breitling, and a Sinn, and I never even touch any of my older watches. I wish I hadn't spend years buying Seikos, axios, boldrs, baltics, etc. and just saved and bought the watches I really wanted first instead of buying watches I didn't really want but that never truly scratched that itch for me.

Just my 2 cents. Also, Boldr is a dumb af name for a watch brand. Sounds like a zoomer hookup app like tinder or grindr.

>>17816079
Literally have no clue why anyone cares about co-axial or whatever. Unless you're getting some real Haute whorologie like ALS or VC or FP Journe or something, you should just stick with the most plain, work horse movement. Fancier movement is just more shit to break that can only be fixed by AD. Most people probably don't even know what co-axial means desu.

>>17816083
Meme watch. Redditors only like it because it was a product placement in their wife's boyfriend's favourite movie.

Also, almost all swatch group watches I pick up in stores have this weird cheap feeling to them. Like they just feel jangly and not solid. Wanted to maybe pick up a Hamilton Khaki Field as I need to travel to parts of africa soon for work and wanted something nogs might not notice or that I wont care if I lose. Felt ridiculously cheap. Same for all the mido, longines, hamilton, etc.

>>17816621
Very true. I was always "filling gaps" in my collection. I felt I "needed" a GMT in my collection, then a chrono, then an alarm, day-date, altimeter, depth gauge, dress watch for formal events, etc, etc.

If you look hard enough, you'll alway find "gaps" you think you need to fill. Best just to get a couple watches you truly love. I travel a lot for work, recreationally scuba dive, etc. and a simple 3 hander is plenty for everything I need to do. Anything else is overkill.

>>17816731

What on Earth are you talking about? Does not Hamilton use ETA movements in their watches? Does not Tissot, which is another inexpensive Swiss brand, also use ETA movements---often the same exact calibre found in Hamilton? And higher level Swatch Group brands likewise use the same movements. Therefore, if you're mocking Hamilton, then you're implicating almost the entire Swatch Group!

I was planning on returning the Citizen, as it is a recent purchase, and seems a bit too brutalistic, but the fella does +3s a day and has a great finish, so I don't really want to. Thanks for the thorough advice.

What are you laughing at?

Hamilton and Tissot are both part of the Swatch Group. And the Swatch Group owns ETA. Do you honestly think that Hamilton and Tissot are not going to use ETA, but source from a competitor? They indeed use ETA movements and sometimes alter them for particular watch models.

I like gold tinted lcd displays. Gold tinted g-shocks, especially if you're looking for a negative display, are more legible imo. The nega-standard silvery/grey is much harder to see than the gold nega.
Is there any rhyme or reason or code number that signifies whether or not any particular g-shock has a gold display? Or do you just have to look at pics of each one in order to find out?

Don't know what you want it to do. It creates a sunburst effect when you move it. You can see it on the stock photo if it has a gold display. The color code for gold is a 9 at the end of the model number but that's only for the watch. Gold displays can be used in watches of any color and gold watches can have displays of different colors.

I'm a novice at buying used watches, but a good place to buy a good watch is the Japanese Mercari. You use either Buyee or Neokyo to get access to shipping that stuff. Japanese folks love the luxury designer brand. LX, Gucci, Rolex, unlisted limited edition stuff, they have everything you want for cheap and stellar quality. These inspectors are very comprehensive about the condition and must provide ample amounts of pictures. A used item on there would be a like new in the States. An acceptable would be a very good, and so on.

If you have the money to buy a real gold watch, consider buying something like the orient as a "tester" and just explain if she likes the look and feel, you could buy a real one in the future.

G-Shock is Casio's "premium" line. They are all shock resistant and have 200m of water resistance.

Never thought i'd wear a Timex.
I really like it and it's precise.
Idk much about watches but Timex now is made in china right ? But it used to be american ?

How bad is it?

>>17818205
Sure but I use it for running. Specifically, it's good for tracking your HR zones and of course timing your runs.

Iam less than a month in these threads and realized some casio/rolex beef is going on lol
I own a rolex datejust 36mm gold/steel i also own a casio...but honestly a rolex is by aesthetics one of the worst ones ever.
Any zenith looks much better and is much cheaper..
>but but muh accuracy
Yeah because spending 15k for a watch that is 1sec more precise than a 3k watch that also looks much better.
Rolex is just a money investment. Mines too. I never wear it i bought it years ago for very cheap and can sell it for it's double price.
