The only mechanical watches worth buying are the ones that have been around for over 50 years (ie before the quartz crisis). The reason is simple : mechanical watches are an outdated tech, and shoehorning mechanical movements in modern-looking watches always ends up in awkward anachronistic shitters.
This is the main reason why tasteful people profoundly hate Omega (except for the Sneedmaster) : all of their watches try to look modern, which is unacceptable for the elevated mind who instinctively associate specific technologies with time periods and aesthetic trends.

Any cheap-ish watches with a GPS-driven compass in them that could be recommended? Presuming it would come in something like a G-Shock, though hopefully not quite that ugly. I'm looking for something for rough navigational support on a motorbike; needs to be GPS-driven, not just a magnetic-driven digital, or the engine will throw it off.

I have one handwind. Perseux movement I believe.

I wouldn't recommend it. It feels like it last 1.5 days on a full wind. But it does feel like an added mental annoyance to wind it up intervally because it might die on your wrist otherwise. Also I have damaged it in the past due to overwinding. The spring limit isn't always intuitive or definite to the touch.

I first started with automatics with a Seiko 5 like a lot of people, and i hated it because you have to set the time everyday and you don't have control of the power unless you shake the watch. That and i hated the feel of the rotor, it feels broken to me.

Now, i only do mechanical (manual wind) watches and i like it way better.
Yes, you have to wind it every other day, but you have full control of it. When you wind it, you just know the power is full and you're set for the day, or two days. You don't really have this in automatics, unless there's a power reserve indicator like on Grand Seikos.

For me it was this Bell & Ross piece of shit. I was obsessed with it for some reasons, and saved for months before being able to afford it (I was a poorfag student at the time). After a while (less than 6 months) I felt stupid wearing it, so I sold it to some old jewish boomer who contacted me online. We both agreed on a price and yet he tried to NEGOCIATE THE DAY we met. I told him no fucking way, and he was like "yeah? well I'm not buying it" so I said fine and left. He immediately grabbed me by the shoulder and said something like "come on come on let's do business" with the most jewish kike fucking happy merchant voice.

This whole thing turned me even more antisemitic than I already was. I later learned that Bell & Ross was founded by another fucking jew (who isn't a watchmaker at all). Obviously I don't regret selling this shitter.

Almost all automatics have handwinding if you really prefer to top it off with handwinding. It's a complete non-issue. If anything auto would still be strictly better for you even if you did insist on winding it every morning because whatever movement you do throughout the day would keep the spring tension higher and closer to full wind where the watch would keep the best time.

I'm barely moving throughout the day, but from what I calculate whenever the power reserve dies down, my automatics are always fully wound when I take them off after work at home or whenever, so shit like checking your phone, answering couple calls, walking to the toilet and shit are more than enough to wind the watch, hell, you could probably have your hands in your pockets and it would still wind it up just from your whole body moving
I don't even have to hand wind it after it dies, takes like two turns and a gentle shake to wake it up, put it on your wrist and it will just go up in power throughout the day

No, it's not the hairspring, but the mainspring and barrel. They made the mainspring too long and too thin in order to lengthen the power reserve. As a result, it isn't strong enough to exert a consistent force on the gear train and the amplitude drops.
(This is why Omega used a two barrel structure for their 8900 series movements and why Hamilton simply slowed the beat rate of their movements down to 3Hz for the Powermatic movement.)

They're fine when new, but after a year or so of constant use, the amplitude tails off pretty badly when there's less than 50% of the power reserve left.

I use my sneedmaster all the time at work. Chronos are useful for keeping track of things like engine start cycles, warm ups/cool downs, comparing actual groundspeed to planned, timing climbs/descents etc etc etc and when i’m at home I use it for bbq and cooking steaks. The balance wheel of a watch has a relative large ring and tiny pivots. Whenever the watch lays with the dial up or down, the contact points are just one of the tips of the pivots and a bit of the side of the other pivot - therefore, the friction it experiences is relatively low, and a watch will actually lose a couple of seconds due to the larger amplitude in each balance swing (270+ degrees). In the vertical positions, the balance lays on the side of each pivot, which increases contact surface, and, therefore, friction. Lower amplitude means faster oscillations, and the watch will gain several seconds that night. In addition to that, the weight on the edge of the balance ring is not spread out perfectly evenly, mainly caused by the fact the hairspring does not expand evenly at all times - due to it being secured to a single point of the balance stem. This means accuracy will vary based on the vertical positions of the watch as well.
Even an old soviet handwind shitter gives me +-15 seconds of deviation in 6 positions, after an hour has passed once I have fully wound it. The actual daily deviation for 24 hours on some watches of the same echelon I own is about +- 4 seconds a day, should I properly regulate them and wind them once every day, on the same hour.
No point in obsessing over it all.
