There's a middleground between clean shaven and nu-beards. Most attractive men with good facial structure but who don't wanna look like a 16 year old Korean boy will opt for this over nu-beards or clean shaven but it does take practice to get the symmetry right when shaving. Invest in a Phillips trimmer qnd a good quality German made safety razor with good blades. Personally I like goatees as someone with a sharp robust jaw but I have created my own style to suit my face.

Beards are great, because guys who look good clean shaven also look great with a well-groomed beard AND guys with malformed chins can be saved by a well-groomed beard.

Honestly get a decent cartridge razor like a gillette and just do one pass with grain, reapply shaving cream and do a second pass against. Yes, you CAN shave against grain with a clean, hot cartridge razor on hot skin and not fuck yourself up, no you will not get 'shaving damage' or anything. I did it every day for almost 4 years in the military - you can straight up raw-dog dry shave against the grain if you're gentle enough and pay attention to what you're doing.
Cartridge razors are more than good enough for 90% of men; the rest being those with really curly/nappy facial hair that get horrible microcuts or ingrown hairs from cartridge razors. Those guys really benefit from the minimal contact and much sharper cutting edge of a safety razor, but even then there's a very steep learning curve.
There is no secret sauce in safety razors, its just the aesthetic and development of technique that appeals to people. Cartridge razors universally obsoleted safety razors for a reason. Not saying nobody should use them, just understand you're doing things the hard way for no real concrete benefit most of the time.

I tried growing a beard before. It's thick and full under my chin but a lot thinner on my cheeks. The moustache is also very thin and there's like a gap that's maybe a third of an inch wide between it and my beard. From further away you don't see it but closer up it's just large enough to be noticeable. You need to shave off a decent amount by going with the grain first before you can go against the grain without fucking yourself up. If your razor is too gentle it might not shave off enough with the grain so when you go against the grain it's going to be painful. Also try to keep your angle as sharp as possible.
