/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - WHOLECUT EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them an

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

It's like an oxford so I guess it should be as close as possible without touching

There's a video on youtube where Gaziano & Girling do a full test run of a bespoke shoe and he explains stuff like what the perfect length should be (pic related) and how far apart the facings must be. Obviously you can't get it perfect on off the shelf lasts.

Which one will serve me better, /fa/? I lean towards heritage workwear style (Japanese selvedge, waxed trucker jacket, plaid flannel, etc). I'm not looking for something very dressy, I have Luccheses and oxfords for that.
I think the solovair would look much nicer, but the corcoran would probably match better with my other clothes and be less likely to have manufacturing defects.
I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for a better quality option with similar styling.

As far as i can tell they are discontinued and a lot of the ones floating around online are factory seconds. If you want to get them make sure the retailer is relatively trustworthy and make sure they aren't seconds. They use somw kind of plastic or in the sole that will eventually break if you really beat on them, but i don't know how long that actually takes.

Sounds like they had a bad lot. Happens sometimes in manufacturing, especially with a lot of hand work. One new guy on the line can do a lot of damage if you're not inspecting thoroughly enough. But the inspection issue is something to give me pause.
Any other examples of quality issues? I saw one on Reddit where one boot had a significant offset in the last, but other than that they seem to have favorable reviews. Seems like they make the effort to make it right when there are issues, too.
Sad to hear that the jump boot is discontinued.

I should say I'm not >>17725992 lol. Although I appreciate baiting boot autists.

They're absolutely fine for the price, pretty tough boots. The coated leather will start to crack eventually even if you take really good care of the boots, but they offer varients like the greasy leathers without the plastic coating for the same price. Either way it's objectively good quality full grain leather of average thickness for a heritage style boot - the microscope can't lie.

I actually respect Whites a lot for making the really tough boots with the best natural materials, though you'd have to be the gayest lumbersexual on reddit to wear their 20 inch high heel tranny boots in a casual setting.

I even really like the perry boot as a cheaper offering that rivals Thorogood and Red Wing a bit more, they made sensible savings and it's the best looking moc IMO, silhouette is spot on. But it absolutely had a bad launch and worse QC than any Solovair boot or even fucking Thursday. And then the same morons praise Corcoran on the regular because they symbolise American masculinity I guess. Despite making basically cosplay boots with exceptionally thin leather that IS mostly plastic.

>I'm not convinced about the love for Whites here
its literally 1 retard. White's make heavy boots with a cool construction method, and their big redeeming factor are the arch-ease lasts, nothing quite like it.
For anything else you go to European brands, mostly good QC, great finishing and beautiful lasts.

For a long winded reason I don't care to explain, I have timbs that are several years (5) old, used very well and they're way too big for me. I want to sell them to put them into properly fitting boots. they're functionally perfect down to waterproofing but pretty ugly. Would I be able to get any decent money back?

>> No.17730937

Got my Nicks in the mail today. Might throw a photo in later. The toe box is ugly as shit because I put a composite toe in it - it looks like a penis. And yeah the upper is not centrally aligned which looks dumb.
Got weathershield leather which looks good and I like the feel of it, stitching all round is very impressive. Despite their looks they're the most comfortable shoes I own by far and I own Rick Owens, Guidi, standard sneakers and other work boots. They also appear to be the best quality construction out of the lot. My shoes with orthotics made for my feet don't even feel that comfy.

My condolences, anon. Just take them to the cobbler if the uppers are in good shape. 60 and a new vibram sole and you should have perfectly serviceable boots. My surplus pair went from unbearable to perfectly fine with a new set of Vibrams.

not unless other nogs will shame them for not buying 5 year old timbs, ya dig? Selling shoes to that market is fucking atrocious though, I can't believe anyone does it voluntarily. Its going to be constant low ball offers and messages in broken English attempting to guilt trip you. I swear to god. I've sold about 2 hypebeast shoes over the past few years and got 4 or 5 messages telling me some sob story and trying to convince me to sell the shoes at a lower price because of their hard times.

If you can't afford them just say it.
For one they aren't 2.5 lbs each, the uppers aren't paper thin, probably thicker leather than any boots you own at 7.5 oz, and the mid soles are oak tan, it's meant to be thick and durable, no one uses leather for uppers on the midsole to make it "evenly proportioned".
