"It's the fault of the chess players themselves. I don't know what they used to be, but now they're not the most gentlemanly group. When it was a game played by the aristocrats it had more like you know dignity to it. When they used to have the clubs, like no women were allowed and everybody went in dressed in a suit, a tie, like gentlemen, you know. Now, kids come running in in their sneakers-even in the best chess club- and they got women in there. It's a social place and people are making noise, it's a madhouse." -Bobby Fisher

It’s not and it never will because 2000s fashion was trash. What did happen, however, is that some LOSERS were forcing this shit style since 2019 but it never caught any momentum in men’s clothing, and has very little steam in female clothing.

This is how people dressed back when I was in school.
Whenever I have to take my kid sister to school over half the people I see are dressed as retards. "-core" this, "-mode" that.

It wasn't anything special because it was just normal clothing. But it didn't look like your taste in fashion wasn't curated by algorithms on Instagram.
It objectively looks nicer because so little thought is put into it besides "oh, I like this."
This doesn't even just apply to high schoolers either. I could say this about college types and just young adults in general.

What is this? Late 90s?
I was in middle school then. Kids my age only cared about name brands, Anything else didn't matter. As long as you wore Abercombie, American Eagle, Hollister, etc you fit in. Abercrombie was definitely the most coveted brand since it was generally the most expensive.
But I also lived in a small town(~15,000 people), so take that with a grain of salt.

Such feeling dedicated to something so willfully poorly understood.
