Is fossil a good brand to get my first watch? I’m getting my first pay check in a few days and was thinking of getting a decent looking watch

That is possibly the ugliest watch I've ever seen

No. Buy a Casio or a cheap Citizen/Seiko.

If the brand doesn't exclusively make timepieces then it's garbage.

Some fossil look alright, but I really hope you're not planning to order that abomination.

Don't fall for it, get a Seiko or a Citizen

Literally every single brand is owned by a bigger company which owns hundreds of other brands who specialize in manufacturing different products.

except for Rolex and Patek which is exactly why those are by far the most prestigious watch makers

No, they are a "minimalist/modernist/mall luxury brand" type of watch. Their automatic movements are atrocious, cheap Chinese Seiko copies (Hangzhou 2189 and the like) which are somewhat decent as far as the Japanese designed part goes, and terrible in the part of the Chinese adding complications to them. Fossil, Heritor, Stuhrling, TCM and the like are all the same terribly low quality, think quartz Armani mall-luxury-design level watches.

Which brand owns Seiko?

If you like it, but it OP. All these anons telling you to spend exponentially more on a watch are just wishful thinkers and most of them couldn’t even afford an Apple Watch for $500

The best beginner brands that are good quality and enjoyable are going to be (cheapest to most expensive) Casio, Citizen, Tissot, and Seiko.
