I live in a mountanous country. Everyone here is very into hiking and being outdoors, and everyone must wear the current expensive outdoors clothing style. Its usually technical stuff, and everyone has a good set of outdoorsy clothes. It has become an important fashion statement.

But most of them never go on hikes that would ever require those clothes, its usually just an hour or two of walking on established, well traveled, comfortable trails/paths. So they have this entire set of very expensive outdoorsy clothes that is only ever used for the most basic of trails. What they are walking in can barely be considered nature.

Meanwhile I have done day long hikes in mountainous terrain in the cheapest nike sneakers one can buy, the same jeans I wear everywhere and just the most basic of clothes without any issues. I have spent long days in forrests with my friends, all of us just wearing the same clothes we wear everywhere else. Fact is that for the vast majority of people, their outdoorsy hiking clothes are just a fashion statement and have no additional practical value for their use case, and only a select niche few actually need those clothes.

I have some and frankly don't like them. The lack of heel and cushioning makes walking harder, the sole is soft (matter of taste in principle) so the forefoot flexes and hurts my little toe (yes, they are sized correctly). The welt leaks water in one place (could probably be fixed with pine tar impregnation though). One of them had some stitching come of (thread destroyed by rubbing dust I think).
On the other hand, the leather is very breathable if you don't overdo the dubbing. And they DO look neofolk, that cannot be denied.

Any kind of welted leather shoe works. Of a traditional style, preferably, whatever that is in your area.

I got a similar pair like these. They're so comfortable I stopped wearing any other shoes, I literally go to work, go to the gym, jump rope, do garden work, and hike with the same hiking boots. They're the best footwear I've ever owned and I'm very picky with shoes.

Yeah whatever but remmeber that you should do some actually outdoor stuff if you're going to dress like Nuuskamuikkunen. Go on a couple of hikes, maybe buy a tent, go fishing, get some signs of wear on those clothes.

Every Finnish family has that traditional knife and the cup too. The cup is called a Kuksa, and it's pretty much a tradition to make one yourself when you're a kid. That setup is only cringe outside of Finland. Here it's completely normal and no one would bat an eye, if you looked like that on the trail.

same thing in sweden, though we generally buy both knife and cup (it's kind of a "why yes, I do go on hikes every single weekend, what gave it away?"-statement if your cup & knife are better quality than general massproduced stuff)
Also it's illegal to carry a knife (or any sharp such object) in public spaces, so you could only do it in the forest (unless it's concealed within a backpack, which naturally defeats the fashion purpose..)

I agree with this one
This guy >>17580640 has less of a point. Hikefags buy expensive shit, but they buy neon colored synthetic outer layers like fleece and nylon and merino wool underlayers because it's the most functional outdoor gear available in 2023. It outperforms all the cotton and wool things ITT by miles and there's a reason no one wears them anymore.
If I saw someone LARPing like a vagrant from the year 1890 on the trail because they think it's "fashionable", I would probably laugh. Reminds me of those autists that must always wear a hoodie or jacket even in summer heat.
