Just get a 50 dollar watch with a similar style without the advertisement.

I mean yeah; its just like car makers, computer makers, cell phone makers, anyone making an expensive thing (for them to produce) taking a chance on something wild like making a pentagram or octagon watch. If they spend millions of dollars making all the tooling, getting it to market, and its a giant flop all that money is fucking gone. If they make a black dial, silver indices, off the shelf movement, plain leather or linked stainless strap it'll likely sell to all retailers because its non-offensive and generally liked by at least someone.

Make something whacky and even resellers won't want to stock it.

Am I wrong for wanting one of these? Yeah, chinkshit, I know, but from what I understand of their history they actually bought all of the swiss tools and equipment to make all the parts in house so it's basically a swiss watch..... made in China. And a lot of people reviewing them seem to like them. It's not automatic, but I think the idea of just winding the watch before going out is kind of growing on me, and my fiance happens to be Chinese so I think it would be fun to wear it when we dress up for Chinese holiday stuff with her family. I might even get the cream colored one for a traditional look for those traditional occasions.

This. Hell, all 3 of those companies have some nice vintage watches that can be had pretty cheaply.

If it has to be new, basically all you can do to get a watch at a decent size is build your own. The chinks sell a variety of cases around the 36-38mm mark, just slap an NH36 in with a nice dial, or just case swap a seiko into it. I'm in the process of building one myself because I'm tired of companies not making watches for small wrists.

Yea it has been a 2x in the UK, for JLC as well.

If I could do it again I'd went with the Reverso, I'm going to pick a Santos Med and maybe a Pam111 (if I find the right one, that's not a super clone), then a few Rolex in the collection Sub, Explorer, DJ? and then I'll come back to the Reverso but who knows what will come along, I also like A384.

honestly Raketa is such an underrated brand, they have so many funky interesting models that you can get vintage for dirt cheap:

I don't think people mention them enough, I think they're much cooler than Vostok

Yeah Casio seems to be getting away from dressier or non G-shock stuff. Confusing why since the same movements on nicer cases and dials should be profitable. Maybe they just said they weren't selling enough non-sport watches and abandoned the segment?

Titanium is the perfect metal for a watch.
>lower heat conductivity keeps it the same temperature as your skin for better comfort
>perfectly balanced weight
>more corrosion resistant than steel
>pure titanium is softer than steel but there are alloys that are harder than common steel
>the most biocompatible metal so it doesn't cause any negative reactions
Steel is only used on watches as a budget alternative. Titanium is more expensive and harder to machine which is why steel is used. There are titanium alloys with better polish and harder than steel but most consumers would rather get a cheap steel watch.

How do you think they got that foam/sponge finish on the deeper parts? Its either sand cast with the highs polished which is even cheaper/easier, but hand engraving would be really expensive for mass production and keeping consistency.

>>17545620
I'm sure they used a mill to hog out a good enough material and let the acid masking finish but my statement still stands. Its a lot less impressive chucking it in a vise and letting a CNC mill or do everything then using a mask template letting acid finish the surface when compared to hand engraving. Especially for the price of their watches.

Regardless, I think it looks nice, just for the price you'd think they could have hired an artisan engraver. Just my bias and preference I guess.

There's no need. I had it serviced from Zenith directly, as they no longer sell parts to independents, and it came back as a true chronometer, as designed. For 8 months, it's been +/- 0, and the only condition is that you have to wind it every 24 hours approximately (give or take 2 hours). If you exceed this in the power reserve, it goes slightly slow (i.e. 0.5 seconds).

It spends most of its time dial up, as a ships chronometer is intended (and obviously this is how Zenith adjusted it during the servicing). I haven't worn it, as my 3-piece suit wearing days are not happening at the moment. So now I'm just seeing which one fails first...lol

You can still get them; the movement is the Zenith 5011K, and if you search Chrono24 or other sites by movement you'll find a few for sale. Zenith also 'found' new-old-stock movements and put them into limited edition watches around 2012 I think (Pilot watches, I think the name 'Aeroneuf' comes to mind); given the size of the movement, these watches are around 50-55mm or so. Great time-keepers, but obviously oversized.

Beware though; Zenith has done what Rolex did and other companies in that they don't sell parts to independents anymore, so if you get one and it needs new parts, you don't have a choice but to send it to Zenith directly. Pain in the ass, and quite costly, but that comes with the territory.

Yeah, it's a thin steel element with rubber around it. It's got some bellows on the underside so it won't stick to the wrist like other rubber straps.
As rubber straps go, it's quite comfortable.

Mostly, I think it gets attention because a lot of Rolex fans want to change their watches off of the bracelet but they don't want to put something not made by Rolex on their watch.

I'm looking for a nice bracelet for my SKX013 clone. I've currently got one that's nice enough, solid endlinks, milled clasp, but it has some issues. First, it's 3.4mm thick, which is just way too thick. 3mm, 2.5mm is better. Second, it's too wide. 20mm at the lug, and it tapers to 18, but I prefer a taper to 16.

Finally, weight. This one is a bit unfair as the bracelet I'm comparing here are on totally different watches and one is much lighter than the other, but an old hollow link bracelet I have makes for a 72g watch, while the new bracelet makes for a 118g watch. Assuming the watch itself is 20g heavier, that means the bracelet is about 25g heavier than it should be.

Very pretty watch. Its really subtle and understated. Wear it because it makes you happy, not because you want people at work to give you compliments.

How expensive a watch should I buy if my wife and I make $600K per year and we’re worth about $1.6M?

Only you and your wife can answer that question. I'm sure there are people in your position who have dropped 6 figures on a Patek.

Nice. The flash from the camera really makes the dial look three-dimensional.

thanks, bros. that pic is quite unflattering but the watchface + unprotected crystal is very pretty IRL. I love when you catch this watch in the right light and get the soft pink hue; it's honestly beautiful

It's heartwarming to know that you remember me. I did finally finish buying though after last year...I now have all the watches I've ever wanted.

>>17546197
There might be one or two on the market from the earlier eras.

Definitely get it serviced if you plan to wind it up and use it. You've got nothing to lose if you trust your watchmaker, and quite frankly as time goes on, parts always become more difficult to find for older watches. Sooner is better than later if you plan to have it for a long time. I wouldn't touch the outside, but that's just me.

The general design can be found in Illinois pocket watches, as well as Hamilton. Railway watches had several different dial design 'approaches', so just look on Chrono24 for pocket watches from those two brands. Waltham occasionally did that dial design, but not as often as other fonts and markers.

In addition to the great points by other Anons, I'd say there is more turnover as well; it's quite easy to get a new Omega as long as it isn't a Snoopy, 321 reissue, or Ultra Deep. With Rolex, there's simply lots of complaints about whether or not to 'favor' an AD to get a watch. Also; MoonSwatch has positively impacted the buying of Speedies, so there's more interest as well.

If you're talking about Tag Heuer style, I'm not sure. It usually takes 30 years for fashion to come back, and although the nostalgia is there, it's there in people who were too young to own these things at that time. Perhaps the nostalgia will come back in another 30.

They do, because being 'individual' only works in context to others. Also; it's tough to research for unique original pieces that are aesthetically pleasing, mechanically sound, but also affordable. So, the path of least resistance is to have a watch by a trusted brand but in a design combo that is unusual or not seen often.
