i dont know at this point really
i started with very short hair so i only have about 4 to 5 inches of growth from where it was shortest, maybe 6 inches in the longest spots where it wasnt so short
however as the months went by my hair eventually became curly, which was a huge fucking wrench in my plans because i wanted long straight hair
to compound upon these issues, my hair is also very fine and is also less curly towards the sides and back than it is in front
ive only gotten it trimmed once so now its like a weird curly-wavy-bowl-cut-mullet-thing (unlike a mullet, my hair in front covers part of my face and goes down to my philtrum when pulled straight, but otherwise curls and stops at about eye level, and i dont mind hair in my face (yet)) but the idea of cutting any of it is very antithetical for me
and its not like i can really show my stylist a picture because i havent found any styles i like
i kinda want something with a middle or side part but i dont know if my face shape supports that, and when it dries theres very little volume at the top compared to the sides so it just looks funny
however i have absolutely no motivation to shave it all off (plus i dont like how i looked with short hair), and at this point im desensitized to a bad hair day every day, so im just letting it grow and hoping something will come of it

No I think it’d look good. In the pic you posted you look good with short sides, you just need a longer top. If you start now you could probably have this hair by July/August. I’d also recommend getting a haircut for the back and sides every one and a half months to look neat, but make sure you show them a photo and tell them you only want the back and sides trimmed, then they’ll style it for you once it’s cut. Maybe pick up a good quality shampoo and conditioner as well if you don’t have one already.

I’ve never used a bar shampoo and conditioner so I don’t know sorry, but as long as it’s free of any chemicals like parabens and alcohols (which I’m sure it would be) I think it’d be fine. As for how often, I’d say once every 3-4 days is good. Or whenever it feels like it needs it. You definitley don’t need to wash your hair daily though.

Getting through that stage where your hair is too short to be tied back and you look like your stuck in the early 2000’s in a punk phase is called “the awkward stage.” Everyone who has longer hair has had to go through this, and it’s part of why so many people don’t have long hair. The awkward stage can last anywhere from 5 months to a year or even more. There isn’t a way around it, if you want longer hair for certain styles you just gotta suck it up.

Second that haircut doesnät suit you, as your face needs to be leaner for that, right now it looks light on the top and heavy in the mid section.
Hair quality doesn't seem bad though.

How do I grow out my hair properly when it's this curly? I want shoulder-length hair but it just never comes down, it's permanently growing outwards like an afro, although it does grow extremely quickly as it this is just 2-3 months of growth. It also looks like complete shit, but I'm willing to put up with it as long as it's worth it in the end.

Your hair looks short or medium-length, maybe just letting it grow out again is your best bet. It doesn't look bad, maybe just a little off, but it'd be better to compare it to a better pic showing all of your hair.

those two images are not exactly the same hairstyle, one has longer sides, the other has them short.
And what you have is a weird mix of both.
The sides start off short and the front, then get long at the back. Unlike the other pictures where its lengthy on the side through out, or short on the side through out.
Feels like you showed the two images to them and they couldnt pick one or the other and just mixed it together.
Honestly your haircut looks presentable from the front but the side profile is so so, maybe the hair needs some time to settle in.
My first impressions were that you cut your hair yourself.

Self cut master race overhere. Never have to deal with the problem of explaining to the barber, or showing pictures which they dont bother to look at, or scheduling or lmao paying.
That said, fancier haircuts, especially if you want some kind of elaborate layering or maybe have straight hair like asians, then you will need to kneed to your local barber.

Yeah.. you're right, it is overgrown by 2 weeks. I will say this hairstyle is very hard to do correctly. As you can see i haven't exactly combed it straight back and now it looks swept over (which it is). I feel like i should have corrected it for the picture but i didn't think it was that bad until you pointed it out. I almost want to retake the picture to prove it isn't that bad but i don't think anyone really give a fuck.

Sounds like a hassle, but then again, we all get some kind of hassle, we just choose the kind we can live with.
There is a reason a lot of people don't cut their hair for instance.

You will absolutely need at least 2 mirrors to see behind and around you.
Good lighting so you can see what you are doing.
Scissors, a comb and brush. for anything beyond short. Hairtrimmer with different guards for short, cleaning up the edges, etc.
Handy tool I like is one of those razor combs I can't explain how to use it, but it's a nifty tool that lets you make adjustments or smooth over transitions between different length sections. Or if you have lot of hair in a section and it's refusing to lie down more neatly due to volume, you trim between it so things lay in a bit more neatly. Situational, but handy.

Lastly mindset, you'l need balls to actually cut your hair if you care about the results and patience and care to take it slow and carefully to learn and get the results you want.
Over all it will take at least a couple of attempts to learn what technique you use, yields what results and then adjusting that to get the haircut you want.

Now why would you go through all of this effort.
The way I see it, I can spend the rest of my life teaching the barber what kind of haircut I want and keep dealing with the annoyance of inconsistent results, schedules, and paying them for it.
Or I can learn it myself for free, get consistently shit results at first and get consistently good results later for the rest of my life. Want to make a small adjustment, you can!
So yeah, it's a long term investment.
But I view it on the same level as cutting your own nails or brushing your own teeth. It's maintenance and it feels maddening that you have to rely on somebody else to do something like that.
Imagine if you couldn't wash yourself and needed to book an appointment with the local washer.
>>17503412
The only real thing stopping people from trying is they either don't want the hassle, or can't afford the social hit of a poorly attempted self cut.

Quick note to add to this.
If you let your hair grow out for a while and plan to just buzz it. Then that is an excellent time to learn cutting your hair.
Progressively give yourself short and shorter haircuts using scissors and trimmer.
If you hit anything nice, you keep it, if it all turns out shit, just buzz it all off like you planned.
You get some experience under your belt and possibly get a better haircut for yourself.

I'm trying to slick it back but I have these clown buns that form from the hair growing from the temples, I even tried saltwater mixture that should allow me to stylize the hair, but it just keeps pushing out on the sides.

Should I buzz the sides or what? Also thought of just buzzing it all off and waiting for things to grow naturally, but I think I look kinder with a bit of hair, I've been told I look intimidating especially with a buzzcut.

Either more dirty/oiliy hair. And if that doesn't work, then you need to play with length, too short and it will poof up, too long and it will sag down.
Another option is that you have too much volume in the hair there, so it can't fold neatly to hang back. A razor comb can help with that by removing some volume and letting hair fold and sit neatly together.

>your scalp absorbs chemicals.
Thats an argument on why you shouldn't put chemicals on your head, not that your scalp will be able to absorb all the unprocessed components of an egg.

>hair loss is innately connected to lack of nutrition
Two things, one, if that is your main concern, why not apply the eggs to a body part that absorbs the eggs more fully, like... the stomach that is specfically designed for that job and gets you the most nutrients out of an egg.
2. What hairloss are we talking, male hairloss from hormonal changes, or womans hair falling out due to being a vegancuck?
Cause you can be perfectly healthy and well fed as a man and male pattern baldness will still happen.
>For instance, male pattern baldness is not linked to Testosterone or Estrogen at all, just an isolated increase in DHT which hints at something beyond hormonal status being at fault.
DHT is literally a more powerful version of testosterone. And it's not even the fact that DHT causes hairloss, is that most people have hair folecule sensitivity to it.
It causes hair loss on the head, and bear and body hair growth instead for example.
>
There is also a unique peptide found in egg yolks called HGP, or "Hair Growth Peptide" which promotes hair growth through VEGF stimulation. This study shows that not only does this peptide increase hair growth, it's potent enough to achieve this even when you eat the eggs.. can you imagine how effective massaging raw eggs directly on to your follicles would be?
Don't know about this enough to comment. Question is if this peptide gets absorbed and does anything if it's done through the skin vs the stomach.

My verdict for me, is eat the eggs. And don't use shampoo.

been reading a lot about rosemary / mint oil 2x a week recently as a replacement for minoxidil, anyone got any experiences with it? myself I'm currently waiting for some blood tests for some other stuff so honestly half hoping that my massive thinning and receding over the past half year is due to an iron deficiency or something and is somewhat reversable (picrel)

>> No.17510541

>>17510475
Does iron deficiency also lead to miniaturization of hair follicles in the temples just like male pattern baldness does?
I haven't tried rosemary and mint oil but I used minoxidil and I don't recommend it, definitely use the oils instead if you want.
To anyone in this thread who has male pattern baldness, this is the most important thing to know: it's finasteride or nothing. Minoxidil will dry your scalp, age your skin (it has alcohol for better absorption, and some of it is gonna rub on your pillow too when you sleep), is very annoying to apply (every evening for 10 minutes, doesn't sound a lot but it really adds up) and worst of all, it doesn't even treat the root cause of your balding, it just accelerates the hair growth process and gives you some new "zombie hair" that's somehow different in texture than the other hair and will stop growing as soon as you stop using minox. You could use it in combination with finasteride if you really need as many hair gains as possible, but minoxidil just by itself is a bad choice, just do scalp massages instead or something.

I have similar thinning on the sides but no recession. I went to a GP and he gave me a blood test which found nothing unusual. He also gave me a derm referral but I'm pretty sure he just wanted me out of his office fast. I'm still holding off on making an appointment because I'm worried the derm will think I'm wasting his time. Hopefully my balls drop before my hair do and I finally decide on making an appointment. So I'd recommend you get a referral from a doctor and use it to see a dermatologist. Listen to actual professionals, not internet memes.

Product question.

I've been growing out my hair, and overall I like what it's doing, but it tends to get hella floofy. The thing is I hate pomades and shit that makes it so my hands get nasty after running my fingers through it. I find that a touch of beard oil does a nice trick, but is there something better? Coconut oil and shea butter? Argan oil?

Thanks all.

>How often did you rinse with water. What was the water temperature.
Every 2 or 3 days. Lukewarm.
>Did your brush?
My hair was short but every morning I had to comb/brush the flakes away and then blow my head with a blowdrier to be able to leave the house and not shed flakes every time I move. (The process did leave my scalp red and itchy, but what can you do.)
>What is your diet like?
Average gym diet I guess? I'm not eating processed foods or sneed oils if that matters, I cook most of the stuff myself with olive oil or butter.

>> No.17512036

>>17512014
This is my guess given the info and my own experience and knowledge.
But I'd say that your scalp has too little oils to keep it hydrated and not spazzing out due to dryness.
While washing and exfoliating helps remove flakes which can cause irritation as well, if you are being too aggressive and leaving the area dry, it will cause irritation and flaking itself.

Here is what you can do to test if that is the case for you.
If that is the case you need to avoid using blowdrier for your hair. Avoid using anything above lukewarm water(ideally using comfortably cool water and finishing off with a 5second rise of uncomfortable cold)
Towel dry your head, just pat the towel, let it soak in water then move on to a drier part of the towel, do not do the ruffling motion, its pointless.
Diet: Adding more fats, eggs, etc hand help the body pump out more oils as well.

This is in general.
For short term test, you could use some kind of oil(maybe olive oil is fine, you need to look into this).
And vigorously apply it to your head, massage it in, so the scalp gets soaked in the oil, also massaging will help remove excess flakes.
Let it stay in your hair for 20-30min at least then rinse it off with luke warm/cool water (the warmer the water, the more readily it will remove oils)
Take note how your head feels in terms of itchiness. No itchiness means no excessive flaking later on, it's your fastest feedback.

Again don't use blow drier and don't comb/brush aggressively close to the skin, you want gentle contact with the skin of the head( you can fuck it up with a comb for example)

And that's about it that I can tell you.
Usually flakiness can be caused by excessive oil, deadskincells and gunk building up. OR excessive stripping, having no oils and drying.

If you constantly wash and it flakes, its very possible it's too dry. So you should try the opposite end of the spectrum and see how it feels and works out for you.

Had a similar shitty dermatologist experience, including the shampoo recommendation.

What has essentially cured my sebderm was *totally* abandoning shampoo and instead buzzing my hair to a zero once it approached medium length/started truly itching.

Next - while your scalp is less dry, your job is to scrape off whatever buildup exists to get it healthy. Effectively scraping off deep buildup is vital and can't be easily removed without a close cut (i'd guess coal tar/salicylic shampoo would speed this up, but avoiding shampoo has worked well so far).

I'd recommend also fixing any stress and using cool water in the shower, but have no evidence to back them up.

>> No.17512115

>>17512084
I used to use fancy shampoos, I'd still get tiny specks of dead skin and my hair was kinda dry and hard to control.
On a whim I stopped using shampoo and switched to cool/cold water. After about a month it felt better and about 6 months later, I could see the hair looked a lot nicer due to not having it's oils stripped constantly.
I also got way more manageable hair, I don't use any products and it lays down for the most part, exactly like I want it.
I also never get the issue of "hair is too clean". Or too oily.
>How's your own hair washing regime?
I kinda covered it in my previous post. No shampoo, cool water to wash, cold water to finish up/seal it up. NO blow drying, no hair ruffling, just let the towel soak it up and use a detangler brush to spread out the hair so it dries more evenly ans faster. Rinse hair as needed, can be daily if you want or need, can be once a week, depends on how sweaty you get and how much oily food you eat and thus how much sebum you pump out.

But recently I had some flakiness in my beard and washing it regularly with soap didn't help, it only made it worse in retrospect. Blow drying my beard to dry it and shape it also made it worse.

So I instead I smothered my beard in sunflower oil for like 2 hours and rinsed it off and it felt a lot better. That's when It clicked that probably it's so flaky and irritated because it's too fucking dry.

Now I use
hellianthus anuus(sunflower), seed oil
arctium lappa(greater burdock), root extract
malaleuca alternifolia(tea tree), leaf oil
rosmarinus officinalis(Rosemary), leaf oil
on my beard an the irritation/itchiness/flakiness is gone.
Now it could be the extra oil that my beard and skin underneath that needed it. Or it could be the extracts doing the work. I can't tell you which for sure.

But maybe make it as not disgusting as possible.

Getting really sick of long hair, used to have it shorter for a while, any recommendations? I was thinking shorter on sides, slightly longer on top.

I wish my forehead wasn't so visible through my bangs in the circled area. Pretty sure it's like that because my hairline's high. And it seems like no matter how long I grow that side those gaps won't go away. How do you fix that? Grow longer layers above my hairline and have them sweep down to cover the forehead?
