as someone who uses one the main benefit for me is that i enjoy the ritual and it's satisfying using cool razors and soaps. if you hate it i wouldn't force yourself to stick with it. you do get used to getting good angles with minimal effort. i do three passes (with the grain/across the side/against) and it gets me a very close shave with no irritation after.

I kind of fell for the same thing but I learned something important: safety razors and multiblade cartridge razors should really live side by side. They are two tools that are indispensable to be used with one another and the idea you can replace one with another is a huge meme.

The safety razor is very good at cutting through the rough on the round portions of the chin, as well as the cheek, the neck, and under the lip.
The cartridge razor excels at corners and curves, making it the premiere razor for mustaches, the edges of the jaw, and the sideburns.

I had wish people mentioned this before I started because I cut myself way too many times and gave myself too many poor shaves trying to carefully, with the very edge of the safety razor, make precise shaves on curved parts of my face.
As for your cons on the safety razor, you should be doing the same with the disposable razor, too. Shaving blind is a terrible idea even if you can shave in the shower, and you should be soaking your face to keep skin irritation down. It sounds like the safety razor is really just teaching you good shaving habits.

I use shark because they're cheap. Never had any issues nicking myself. Shave my twig and berries with them too, no issues either. Make sure you replace blades regularly, they don't last as long as your Gillette 9 blade bullshit.

Get a sample with a bit of everything.

At the top end of crazy sharp is feather; you need to try it once at least just to see what it's like. Add few of the "not-feather crazy sharp" blades like Gillette platinum, astra platinum, and permasharp for something that you'll probably end up using, and to round out the bottom, RK, lord, and dorco.
