I've owned three and never bought one new. I'd recommend buying one used as you'll save loads and can get ones with that have a bit of a patina if you arent into the shiny newly waxed look.
The only real risk is getting one that's really ancient and smells really bad. In that case you can look up how to wash it. Personally i've never had that happen.

I got one used on ebay for like $45. Somebody cut the collar off and sewed on the Barbour button on hood and it smelled kinda funky. Washed the lining by hand, rewaxed it, and I kinda like the hood now. I'd say they can be worth it if you get a good deal but you can get them for under $200 new if you're in the US

Should I get a Bedale or an Ashby? The Ashby looks a little better, but I like the versatility the Bedale offers.

You've got all the 4 primary colors and 2 more (black and white). And probably even more colors on your other items of this fit.

4 color palettes are preserved for children and similar types of psychology. E.g. clowns, circuses and kids' bedrooms often have all 4 colors.

2 colors + shades of black and white. Are than enough for a balanced palette. You can add a 3rd color if you know what you are doing. In your case don't.
