I gave vintage amouage gold man a full wear today.
This is some incredible stuff. Huge performance and longevity. Opens with white florals, aldehydes, resins come in, then soapy rose, tons of baby powder and a pretty decent dose of civet that is more on the warm powdery side than the heavily fecal side but its there.
Smells like something a rich arab would wear. I have tried some womens chypres recently and they didn't juve with me but shockingly i coild see myself wearing this regularly.
Very out there and i would not recommend this two most people but damn ia this stuff nice.
I can can see the comparisons some people make to grandmas floral bathroom soap but somehow it works. The woman says it smells good too which suprised me.

Haven't been on /fa/ since 2011, and hence fragrance threads ever, but when trying to decide on a cologne to buy recently (having not worn anything but Polo Blue years ago), found Fragrantica. This opened a huge can of worms and hours and hours of uninterrupted autism powered studying, fine tuning, and filtering.

Rate my first set of colognes, Anon. Intended to be well rounded, and taking fall/winter coming into account.100% blind buys, too, and so far I like all of them a lot, having not yet worn oud wood, acqua di gio, or coffee break. Uhh I definitely think Light blue intense is definitely more suited to spring+summer.
Though, I have worn it all year round personally, cuz I like it that much. So much so my bottle is empty. Probably good for the gym I suppose.

Other than that I like the spread you got here for fall/winter. Out of all of them I've only smelt oud wood (got a sample) and like I said before light blue.

I've always been attracted to the idea of jazz club, but never pulled the plug on a blind purchase of it.

Overall, it's technically not the worst starter collection, but you could have went by actually smelling the frags at a store instead of using fragrantica (which gets accords wrong all the time - who even lists the accords originally?). Modern warm spicy vanilla frag. Probably too loud for some, but just right for me. It has good balance and isn't overly sweet, either. Some would probably call it a "clubbing fragrance", but I think it's a good signature scent, too.

>Prada L'Homme Intense
Like someone took Prada L'Homme and made it a lot sweeter. The OG is snice and laundry-fresh, this stuff throws that vibe kinda off. It's a good frag if you like the original and could imagine a sweeter and version, otherwise start with the OG.

Tried my H24 and CDG 2 samples, the two main "futuristic" scents I've been recommended.

>H24
Interesting. It's in the same "globally inoffensive, but definitely unconventional" category as BI, but the scent profile is completely different. I definitely get the ironed clothing vibe, but it's more than that. This metallic note (sclarene) is warm and inviting, not cold or sterile. It's inorganic, very artificial-smelling, sure, but it blends with a very slightly sweet, light aromatic note (clary sage?) to create this beautifully airy and comfortable scent. H24 reminds me of large, empty, clean and well-lit manmade spaces. It's very light both as a scent and in terms of the impressions it evokes: if smells have colors, this is white, light grey, light blue, pastel yellow.
I guess you could call H24 futuristic, as it's very modern and innovative, but it doesn't bring up anything really alien or strange. It has a clean and masculine profile, with this metallic-aromatic twist that makes it more abstract, smooth and intriguing than your average blue scent.
This is an everyday, very versatile frag for a guy who wants something inoffensive yet interesting, with an energizing and even "optimistic" vibe to it. It's masculine, but not overtly sexy; I feel like it trades conventional sensuality for an innovative, never seen before scent profile.
In a sense, the target audience for H24 is pretty much the same as Bois Imperial despite how different the frags are. Although I will say that BI has more of a sparkly, spicy sharpness while H24 is much smoother, softer, reassuring. BI is a jungle of herbs, spices and woods, green and blue, but H24 is pure empty space, translucent, weightless.
I really like it. I don't think I will get a full bottle (I have BI and don't want to expand my collection beyond what's necessary) but this metallic smoothness is so interesting and pleasant. Definitely a 9/10.

>CDG 2
This is strange. I think I'm pretty decent at describing scents but this one has me perplexed. I like it, but it's not like anything I've ever smelled before. With frags that are very alien and unconventional, like Ganymede, the notes still evoke something known and you can piece together some kind of olfactory landscape from them, but there's nothing like that here.
I keep smelling my arm and so far what I've got is: cherry candy, clean plastic, some kind of flower or nondescript herbs, and a slight metallic tinge. So, pretty much none of the "official" listed notes.
Also, the frag does this thing reminiscent of iso E super where I can smell it very well at first, then I can't smell shit, and then I can smell it again.
It's a clean scent, there's no earthy griminess or musk or anything like that here. I would actually say that it leans more towards the feminine side, because of the slightly floral profile it has for me, but I don't know if I'd enjoy smelling this on a girl.
Is "futuristic" an apt descriptor for it? Maybe, because it literally smells like something you have never seen before, something that hasn't been invented yet. Overall, it's quite a light frag, I cannot see this ever being overpowering or cloying to anyone. It's not really fresh, but it's very light and ethereal.
What CDG 2 conveys to me is a somewhat feminine (but not unambiguously so), extremely artificial (but not in a cheap way) sweet-plasticky scent that is very urban, maybe even technological. For some reason it reminds me of these japanese girls who wear very tacky, cyberpunk-ish reflective, vinyl or latex clothing, not sure if that subculture has a name.
It's interesting, but I have no reason to ever consider buying or wearing it. 6/10.

I tried Ganymede several weeks ago. So far, of all the frags I've sampled, only NYI is in the same league (and I still find Ganymede better).
Ganymede is indeed clearly better than both CDG 2 and H24, but I didn't sample those two to try and find something that rivals Ganymede. I do expect LDDM to be as well-composed, will try it tomorrow or Friday. I'm holding out on buying a full bottle of Ganymede until I've sampled most of what is hyped in the frag community. I want my collection to only include the frags I absolutely love, I'll get rid of all the rest.
>>17222528
Not getting any cloying sweetness yet, just a slightly sweet and mostly metallic warm airiness.

Middle-tier, although certainly unique. Personal preference. Not rated well by the only two women whose opinion about my frags I care about, so it didn't really make my rotation.
There's a reason why most popular fragrances are designers and not niche frags, unless you go into the faux-niche category (PdM Layton and Xerjoff Naxos and shit like that). Designers like to put out fragrances that will sell to the masses, and not to individuals.

the initial blast is a very strong, little synthetic and off-putting but fades away within the first minutes to this spicy, but at the same time extremely fresh tobacco and woodiness. this then mixes into something that's slightly similar tea-note as in GPH II, without the synthetic mess. it's not incredibly challenging, but the non-linearity together with it's versatility has really surprised me - I wore my decant to multiple different occasions from office to festivals throughout the summer. extrait concentration so you can expect the longevity to be closer to 8-10 hours.

you can tell that the nose behind the frag is the same as most of the eccentric molecules frags; there's some similarity in the way that the iso-e base pops up throughout the wearing and reminds you about itself after multiple hours of application.

ecuacion sells 5ml decants at near same ml-price as the full bottle if you are eu.

Incredible fragrance. Really hard to dislike this one unless you're a hardcore contrarian. This is winter time sexiness at it's finest. Personally I've gone through 3 bottles of this since I started wearing it in high school. You can't go wrong with Jazz Club.

YSL Kouros is interesting because it smells like a sweaty bathroom but that doesn't make it good.
>>17222915
Since it seems like you're mainly interested in designer, for spring and summer, BdC and YSL Y EDP are definitely the go to's. You really can't go wrong with these two. They're the apex of sexy, blue fragrances. There's a reason they're so popular.

As for fall and winter - Jazz Club, DG The One EDP, JPG UM and Luna Rossa Black and/or L'Homme Intense are all incredible choices. I would also say Encre Noir is solidly up there, however it can be extremely divisive. I would say that considering how cheap it is (<30USD at discounters), it's a cheap enough blind buy that it should be considered safe.

The drydown is completely different from the opening. You're also forgetting the ambery base, the vetiver, the unconventional dry woodiness of akigalawood alongside the aromatic and herbal notes. It has a lot of things going on, it's not one-dimensional.
>>17222946
But it's also good on top of being interesting. Just because it's incessantly shilled doesn't change that. Is it a Sauvage-tier safe, pleasing frag? No, but it's versatile, smells good to most people, and is less conventional than most designer frags while being at the same price point.

Nice reviews I also always thought H24 ans CDG 2 were similar but I largely prefer 2.
H24 smells of cucumber in the the opening and I don't like it, I find CDG 2 is better put together and gives more suggestions than H24 does.
I give to H24 the fact of being more masculine but I wouldn't really say 2 is feminine leaning. 2 is perfectly unisex like I would say Mitsouko is.

Hey guys, so basically I'm the 21M law student that asked for advice for a nice fragrance in the last thread (like a couple days ago).
Finally went to the shop and tried out the ones on my list plus some extra.
Mancera Instant Crush was too sweet so I didn't get that.
Le Labo Santal 33 was just sandalwood after like 5mins which was underwhelming so I didn't get that either.
They didn't stock Floris or Guerlain so I couldn't try any of their fragrances.
So tried Penhaligon's Sartorial and I loved it. The woman in the store suggested Penhaligon's Halfeti as it's the most popular which I also tried but I preferred Sartorial so I purchased that.
Felt bold and asked a random female their thoughts but they just said no clue whilst another suggested the Oud variant (dk the name) but it was way too strong for daily use.

TLDR; bought Penhaligon's Sartorial. Pic Rel.

Hello anons. I need female fragrance recommendations that would work as a gift for the girl I'm seeing. Don't think she really wears any perfume right now so nothing I can use as a starting ground. Is there a Sauvage Elixir or Blue de Chanel equivalent for women's perfume?
